How Dillon will run for governor in 2014By GOPpundit, Section News
Many thought Andy Dillon's political days were over when he lost the Democratic primary for governor in August. But you thought wrong. With his appointment as the next state treasurer, Dillon will be able to travel the state and repair his image and carefully wait for an opportunity to run for governor.
Make no mistake: Dillon's loyalties are not with the Republican Party, Governor-elect Rick Snyder or the incoming administration. He'll wait for a major issue. This will be something controversial, such as a tax increase. In protest, Dillon will resign from Cabinet on a matter of conscious, criticize the Republican administration and then mount a challenge - saying I knew better and will do better - to Snyder in 2014. Dillon's a clever politician. He wants to be governor. He was robbed of the nomination by labor unions, whose days in Michigan's halls of government are numbered, and moderate and independent-leaning voters who preferred the calm-mannered Snyder to Republican primary rivals Mike Cox and Pete Hoekstra.
How he does it, nobody knows. But mark my words: We haven't heard the last of Dillon. And in a general election contest verses Snyder, Dillon (who some could argue is more conservative -- at least on social issues) will prevail.
