Michigan has followed the lead of Minnesota and Wisconsin with its own weekend blizzardy thing.  I am pretty sure there isn't a place to hide where the wind isn't blowing and snow making driving a little difficult.

I love the snow personally, but coming back up north on Saturday night after an affair in Grand Rapids, found us in the company of a slew of motoring eco sized cars... in the ditch, beams blazing brightly toward the sky.  The common denominator between them, and their cousins still on the road was indeed their size and ability to take a wind swipe, or get their tires into a snow groove and a concurrent inability to stay straight.  The poor little things just cannot take an oncoming storm very well.

As the nuclear white knuckles of young inexperienced drivers saw similarities with the older candle burning brightness of knuckles of yore, it took no engineering degree to determine there were SOME cars that ought not be on the road.

The cars our liberal friends would 'necessarily' put us into.

The cars that do not distinguish so well which side of the white line they prefer to travel on a blustery winter night in Michigan.

Some folks like small cars.  I get it.

I mean, if I had my druthers, it would be the golf cart like this guy I almost run over every weekday in the summer as I make my 3 mile trek into work.  The 5.7l HEMI is indeed 'sweet', but uses twice as much gas to merely start, as the ol caddy cart with the orange triangle that crosses my path daily.

But in Northern Michigan, or nearly anywhere in this great state, we have weather that can not only turn on a dime, but can swallow you up fast in the great in-between expanses during winter.  Safety is one of those things I take seriously when driving, so each of our vehicles have blankets to keep us warm, and a box of tic tacs (orange, because they seem so tropical) to feed us if we get stranded.  No freaky weekend blizzard will find us in a cannibalistic state like an unprepared liberal couple in a prius that has discovered true chaotic theory in a Michigan winter.  It just wouldn't be right.

Seems logical that the car companies sell more SUVs in Michigan.  And the funny thing is that the government (which now holds great accolades for our headmistress of hardcore incompetence) had used that fact to gain control of at least two automakers, and make them perform lewd acts of un americanisms. And even the third player.. well.. It should come as no surprise, the administration LIKES Granholm.

Obama's crew for its part gives her a 'Yo Whassup?' According to the Ivory tower:

She appeared frequently on TV news shows, arguing on behalf of the industry and its importance to the economy. Privately, she counseled auto CEOs on strategy.

Brian Deese, special assistant to President Barack Obama on economic policy, said Granholm played a pivotal role in shaping the Obama administration's rescue effort.

For one who extols the virtues of a business' 'importance to the economy,' she sure has done her best to make it hard.  Holding Michigan hostage to her ecological ideology has not made it easier for the manufacturers who for now may say nice things publicly, but privately pray for an end to her interference.

And as i look outside this morning to see the fresh drifts brought about by the same winds that have taken out a few power lines last night, I thank God for the quality folks we must have had at the head of the table once upon a time, or the power lines might not even be necessary, and typing this might be by candlelight and with a dipped feather.

Grab the biggest thermos folks. And check your survival gear before heading off to work, we have a few cold days left this winter.

my 4x4 Dodge Dakota over those pregnant roller skates any day.  Coming back from TC on Saturday was nasty but I have the comfort of knowing my truck is at least going to take a wind gust and not blow me off the road.

Nope - you will never get me to buy one of those death traps!

Libs and their clown cars. (none / 0) (#2)

Laura Ingrahm calls those tiny wheeled shoe boxes Clown Cars. She is right. Only a clown would drive a car like that.
Me I like the big 4x4 gas guzzling eco-unfriendly monsters. The BIGGER THE BETTER. H1 HUMMER anyone. I would love to have at least three of them. Just to stick a finger into the left eye of the tree hugging earth firsters.

    A good point, and... (none / 0) (#3)

... notice how, over the years, when you see PR footage of the latest electric/hybrid car ideas, they're always tooling around a test track in what appears to be California.
Having had some experience dealing with VC/tech people on the Left Coast, I suspect they not only didn't give much thought to how their green vehicles would deal with a Midwest winter, they still don't care.  "Like, why would people still want to live there anyway?"

Ah, yes. The Red Square "ration market" (none / 0) (#4)
by Corinthian Scales on Mon Dec 13, 2010 at 12:15:22 PM EST
..cars have crept back into prominence of clogging the ditches when the Algore-Bull Warming piles up on Michigan roads.  I herd the same thing about all the EnviroTard cars lining the ditches of 23/75 when the girlfriend went safely back downstate yesterday in her 28mpg freeway, V8, heavy, 4 door sedan.  Vehicle safety is much like what one looks for when buying a tractor; it all comes down to weight.  And, I don't mean government subsidized, useless 'battery weight'... plus their bogus economy figures.

Remember the Red Square sh!box that blew off Mighty Mac in '89?  I do.  Yep, the gummint ration car folk are good business for Darwin.

The German footage of Smart crash embedding is disabled, probably for good reason.

    Explained...

BTW - Congrats to Jr. and to you too J-man.  I read about you somewhere last night.  It's good to know people such as you still exist in this state.
