A bunch of heat came out today regarding Fred Upton as John Boehner's possible choice for chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

    Any thoughts from you guys???

If nothing else, Michigan Republican Rep. Fred Upton has a lot of nerve to campaign to succeed California Democratic Rep. Henry Waxman as chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Upton is wholly unsuitable for the job, as a stroll down Memory Lane quickly reminds us:

» Upton was one of only 34 House Republicans to support the Democrats' Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009 that removed millions of acres of federal lands from oil and gas leasing, thus helping drive up energy costs for consumers.

» Upton was one of 29 House Republicans to support creation of the Santa Cruz Valley National Heritage Area along the U.S.-Mexico border in Arizona. This empowered federal bureaucrats to impose strict zoning and land-use rules and made it more difficult for the U.S. Border Patrol to do its job in blocking illegal immigration through federal wilderness areas.

» Upton was one of 20 Republicans to vote against an amendment offered by Rep. Jim Jordan that would have reduced the Environmental Protection Agency's 2010 funding to 2008 levels.

» Upton was one of nine House GOPers who voted against Rep. Dave Camp's substitute amendment to the $787 billion Obama-Pelosi economic stimulus bill in March 2009. The Camp amendment would have substituted a GOP stimulus alternative made up primarily of new tax cuts for individuals and business.

Representative Fred Upton would be an abject failure as Chair.  Upton has been on the Committee for years and mainly votes with Democrats on energy policy when not voting with Democrats for open borders.

Upton, due to his seniority, is the frontrunner for the post and has recently sought to bolster his conservative credentials by vowing to investigate President Obama's energy czar Carol Browner, EPA chief Lisa Jackson, and Health and Human Service Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.

Seniority?!?!  Jesus H Christ! It sounds like a UAW position.  That BS has to end.  Seriously, Fred's been mooching from the gummint teat since he got his B.A. from Libtard Ann Arbor in 1975.  When one checks into the congressional roach motel should not be a determining prerequisite.

In the 6th District feel that Fred Upton was the wrong man to be our representive period. He has gotten quite mushy and spineless over the last few years with a decided list to port. I did not support him in the primary because of his left of center actions over the last few years. He supported TARP, he voted for the Prescription drug benefit for Medicare. I realize that a lot of Republicans did in support of the President. But yet, it is a boondoggle.
I have also had problems getting answers to particular questions from his office. Questions such as why does the US Department of Education need several Tactical shotguns as a bid that was made public clearly evidenced. Also the Internal Revenue did the same. Ask for competitive bids for Remington 870 Tactical shotguns. I asked Mr. Upton what the purpose of these purchases were and recieved no answer to repeated inquiries.
Fred may well be a nice fellow, but as a member of Congress serving the people of the 6th District he has been less and less effective each year. He should have been replaced in the last election cycle. It is to our detrement that he wasn't. We need somebody that will go for the throat of the administration to expose the monkey business they have been playing with the energy industry in this country. Their corrupt actions have seen gas prices rise nearly 30 cents a gallon over the last two weeks as oil rises to every increasing heights. We need a junk yard dog not a fluffy little kitten to go after Carol Browner and the other Marxist at EPA and DOE. Fred falls short on to many of these requirements. Our Speaker Designate may well want to rethink his choice.
