I am not at all sure whether Steele still has it, or if Michigan's Saul Anuzis or any other contender could pull it together, but its my opinion the national GOP is in trouble.

NOT necessarily the Republican party mind you, but the finances of the GOP going into the 2012 election cycle.

Establishment Newt Gingrich, the man who sat on a couch next to the enemy of America and Michigan, (Nancy Pelosi)promoting green policies can go pack tuna with her for all I care.  His open congratulations tonight to Lisa Murkowskee (spelled wrong.. take a vote off please) tonight really drives home his allegiance to the status quo, and willingness to go along with whomever might be there to advance his political agenda.   She should have been excoriated for her refusal to accept the will of the Republicans, and particularly the conservative Republicans in the primary fight.  Any worthwhile committee assignments should have been withdrawn once she OPPOSED a Republican candidate.

But Ill bet there are folks who think there is a similarity to NY 23rd right? Newt was wrong THERE as well. Think not?  If there was a primary vote in the 23rd you might be right... otherwise...

The problem for money raising is twofold.

As long as there are folks who would take the successes of the Tea Party efforts as Newt would, and then deny the real reason for those successes is not a friend to anyone within the movement.  Further, those within the NRSC who at first dismissed the conservative permanently damaging the DE race have distanced themselves from the folks who's activism has made the new majority in the house possible.  And in doing so have become merely a nuisance on the other end of the phone line when calling for money.

    And its ALL ABOUT money.

The other part is that for many donors, expendable income is becoming increasingly difficult.  A general donation to the GOP serves questionable efforts, yet direct donations to the candidates themselves are now preferred, because a donor KNOWS which message is being supported.  PACs such as Our Country Deserves Better and other conservative concerns seem to represent the movement which has SAVED the GOP.. for now.

For those of us (I include myself in this camp) who want a strong republican party LOADED with conservatives, this makes for a difficult situation.  On this site alone there are those of you who already think that even given the radical success of the Nov 02 election, the party is doomed. There are plenty of others within Libertarian camps that don't want a resurgence of the GOP and want that final fail to happen so they can pick up the pieces, and then there are the leftists who are eager to make it happen sooner than later.

A weak GOP guarantees Democrat wins, and as long as the Marxists control the Democrat party, that cannot be good.

Finances needed by the GOP are as much important in the recount processes and attorneys for GOP candidates who may benefit from such services.  And with the FAIL at protecting the GOP win in Alaska, the national party has not done its job.

I told the last GOP caller that my donation went to Miller for his count attorneys.

Saul, Michael, or whomever is at the national GOP helm for this next cycle, I have to suggest some serious industrial strength lip gloss for the kissing up that will need to be done to hold the finances of the party together.  You have a lot of stink to deal with if you think the party can cash in on this election without the conditions of conservative principles.

Money raising for efforts that in anyway that conflicts with the goals of the conservatives and traditionalists who worked for two years to straighten out the attitude of the 'elite' (a word I truly hate BTW) will threaten any gains, and fast.  This means that high profile Republicans like Newt are going to have to be kicked to the curb if necessary.  It means the Republican leadership will have to 'Specter' its rogue Senators like Murkowski and stick to the constitution.

Failure to do so will de-motivate what has like it or not become the BASE of the newly reborn Republican party.

And..  likely lead us to the next Obama administration..

I remember them. Steele knows what the GOP has to do. They've been reminded that they're not boss hog and it's not all about who is heading up the GOP.

To put this all on 'change the chair' is silly of some people.

We now need to focus on 2012 not on, 'Hey world, our GOP leader stinks."

Sure, there's some blood in the water. (none / 0) (#2)

I'm not convinced that just because there might be an opening to make a move is cause for making that move.

I'm absolutely convinced and certain that there is a lot of respect and longevity to be gained by strategically setting aside ones own goals for the over all good.

    ...from an unlikely source.

"There has been a lot of talk about combining the tea party movement with the Republican Party. And on a small scale, that seemed to happen last week in South Carolina after state GOP representatives agreed to create a "Tea Party Republicans" group to coordinate activities with tea partiers in Greenville and Spartanburg.

This week, however, those arrangements fell apart as some tea party groups dissented from the decision. Other attempts to draw tea party groups into formal alliances are running into similar difficulties. That is a good thing. The tea party movement will be more effective than it otherwise would be if it refuses to allow itself to become an appendage of either major political party.

The tea partiers have made an important splash because they are not yet another auxiliary to the Democratic or Republican parties. Like the pro-life and Second Amendment movements before it, the tea party movement will have a bigger impact if it holds the feet of politicians in both parties to its fire. Each party must know it can win or lose swing tea party voters."

    Karl Rove - Feb 2010

Jason brings up a great point.

Take the party out of the equation and focus mainly on the individual candidates by volunteering money and time.

The elites still haven't gotten it through their noggins that "it's how we've always done things" argument is no longer acceptable.

That the John Cornyn has been re-elected to head the RSCC for another two years. You remember him. Charlie Christ's BFF when Charlie was the party elites darling candidate. Kind of in the same vain as dear old McAmnesty. Cornyn really did a lousy job running the show and if it weren't for his bias and ass kissing every RINO that came down the pike we might have taken control of the Senate. Imagine if the Kalifornication Senate race hadn't received the huge influx of campaign cash for Fiorina. Who in my opinion was another moderate non-Conservative candidate and that money was spent on say Colorado and maybe in Connetticut or even Delaware. If the party elites hadn't thrown a fit over their fallen RINO champion who voted with the Marxists in the House more often then with his own party maybe we would have gotten the job done with O'Donnell. But giving Cornyn a second shot at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory means our chances of retaking the Senate in 2012 just got a lot fewer. And remember this. The Democrats are lining up for a worse time then they did this year. In 2010 they defended 16 Senate seats. In 2012 they will have to defend 21 seats along with two Independants that cacuse with them for a total of 23. Republicans on the other hand will have to defend 10. Some of the stars of Marxism and shady deals who will be up for the Dems are Michigans own Debbie Stabs-us-now and Ben Nelson. Both should be extremly vulnerable. Also Senators from states that just saw the governors office and the entire legislature go Republican such as John Testor from Montana aren't looking like shoe ins either. Forehead Jim Webb from VA is another so called Democrat Conservative who voted the party line on health care and bailouts would be a prime example of the endangered Democrat. But can we really get the job done by staying with the same people that did such a poor job this time around. We should have in my humble opinion taken at least 9 Senate seats this time around. We took six. Yes, we made gains but we should have done alot better. If Cornyn continues to court RINO republicans to run for Senate seats our result next time might be even worse in a time when our stock should have gone up with more targets to aim at. I also think we need to primary several of the RINO's such as Collins, Lugar, Hatch, Snowe, Barrasco and a few others. Their time has passed. No comprimise, no working across the aisle. WE WON it is time to govern according to the will of the people.

should be given to any of these asshats!  Donate directly to the candidate and get involved!!!

By the way - today is the 52nd anniversary of the sinking of the Carl D. Bradley in Lake Michigan.  It devastated the town of Rogers City, Michigan with the loss of home town sailors.  The sinking left 23 widows and 50+ children were orphaned.  Sad day for many who remember it like yesterday.

"And how is Murkowski standing up to the GOP bosses? By rejecting the party's earmark ban and promising to pork up spending bills with parochial, unauthorized pet projects that, no doubt, will help her political allies."

Saul.. are you still with the 'American Solutions' Newt group? Say it aint so.

    Steele? ...or, Steal? (none / 0) (#10)

Oh, what tangled webs we weave...

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael S. Steele hired his former personal assistant to manage the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., for $15,000 a month plus a $25,000 signing bonus, The Washington Times has learned.

The contract, signed by Mr. Steele on the RNC's Committee on Arrangements (COA) letterhead, calls for Belinda Cook to serve "as RNC liaison to the convention."

    WTF is a convention "liaison"?

Mr. Steele signed the contract in July of this year and dispatched Mrs. Cook and a team of operatives to Tampa, where they rent living quarters, presumably to be on site to negotiate arrangements with the host committee for the 2012 Republican presidential nominating convention.

But staff and party officials report seeing Mrs. Cook not in Florida but in the RNC headquarters building in Washington this week.

This week, she sent what she labeled as "talking points" to six of Mr. Steele's staunchest supporters on the RNC. The talking points use RNC Finance Department figures to attempt to rebut accusations by the RNC's former political director that the committee under Mr. Steele has had a dismal fundraising record.

RNC spokesman Doug Heye declined to comment.

Mrs. Cook did not respond to a message left on her cell phone.

The contract guaranteed Mrs. Cook $15,000 a month, from July 1 through the date of the next chairman election, in January. The contract also awarded Mrs. Cook an immediate lump sum upon signing of $25,000, earning her $115,000 for the contract's six-month length.

The latest Federal Election Commission filings through Sept. 30 also confirm the bonus payment and the monthly payments to that date.

    That reads $19,166.66 per month.

Isn't that just great.  Using Party funds for damage control?

    F'ing disgusting.
