After ANOTHER Shooting, Leyton Must Do His Day Job-- Or Resign!By Saul Anuzis, Section News
Barely a day after the Granholm administration was forced to talk publicly about the possibility of sending the National Guard into Flint to clean up Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton's streets, news broke this morning that another resident was shot multiple times overnight.
Flint residents deserve safe streets and Leyton could not be further from delivering. If David Leyton is unwilling to do his day job, prosecuting murderers, he should resign today. Let someone else do what he refuses to do--protect families and put murderers behind bars. Flint is already one of the most violent, deadliest cities in America and has had 50 homicides in the last nine months alone, prompting repeated calls from community leaders, including former state Representative Vera Rison, for the United States Army to do what Leyton has failed to do--keep residents safe. I hope everyone reading this will join me in saying a prayer that the victim gunned down this morning, apparently a man who struggled with a robber he found at his home after returning from work, does not become victim number 51 in 2010. And I hope the rest of Michigan will take today's news as a wake-up call. When the man responsible for keeping our streets safe, a city's "top cop," presides over one of the most devastating murder rates anywhere in the United States of America-- When he fails so badly at keeping murderers in jail and protecting working moms and dads in their own homes-- When the situation is so dangerous, so bleak that the citizens he is charged with keeping safe honestly believe the only situation to their daily crisis rests in the deployment of the United States Army on American soil-- That man, David Leyton, deserves a pink slip, not a job promotion.
