Why do all Michigan residents HAVE to pay for state union retirees?  I should have the option to "opt out" of paying for this nonsense!  And our supposed legislators are doing their jobs by proposing this crap?  Get rid of them now!!!

You probably have to pay for their pensions, Granny, but fortunately there's a lot of money sitting in pension funds for that. It appears that there is no contractual obligation for the state, school or local governments to pay for their post retirement health insurance bennies, however. So why are these Republican and Dem legislators trying to stick you with them anyway? Legislators get rewarded for serving the system rather than the people - specifically for serving the most politically powerful special interest in the state, which is government employees and their unions - and think they can get away with it because no one will tell the folks back home.

Hey folks back home - are you watching?
