Can you imagine what unemployment will be if Con and Tax and Healthcare Reform is passed?

With the Detroit Area now at 16.3% we're likely first in the nation in unemployment right now.

Yet again Democrat policies and practices bear bitter fruit.

You know how they talk about how you can't take your eyes off a train wreck?  I think I'm feeling that phenomenon right now.

John Engler succeeded Jim Blanchard as Michigan's Governor, inheriting a state workforce of 4,665,641 and an unemployment rate of 8.1%.  His administration was characterized by privatization of state services, tax reduction, educational reform, welfare reform, and major reorganization of executive branch departments.  During his last term, Governor Engler's policies actually had the state's workforce up to 5,174,837 and the unemployment rate down to 3.2%.

Jennifer Granholm succeeds Engler as Governor, and has so far proceeded to steadily reduce Michigan's workforce to a current (as of May) level of 4,848,828 and steadily raise unemployment to . . . well . . . that ugly looking number above.

And let's keep in mind what that number doesn't include:

    • Illegal immigrants - because you have to be here legally to count as a statistic for much of anything

    • Families who've left this state while they can - current estimates have that rate at one family every 12 minutes

    • People who've just given up and gone onto the state's welfare rolls

    • Workers who are quite content with a part-time (< 35 hrs/wk) job - because only full-time employment counts as being "employed" in this metric

John Cherry swears that Granholm's record is worth running on, and that he'll be quite happy to run on it.  Very well then, we shall see to it that he's just as blown away as the rest of us.

She's only got another year or so (none / 0) (#10)

... so I doubt she'll reach that magic 20% number.  Still, she's "blown away" all expectations so far.

Unemployment was in the 9s in November.

GM is expected to layoff another 6,000 people.  I'm sure the suppliers and rest of the industry will follow suit.

I don't think 20% is unreasonable fto get to before January 2011.
