What needs to happen, IMO, is the school boards need to just cancel the contract with the teachers. There is no shortage of willing people, who if given a chance for employment that is fair to all parties, who would not sign up. Teachers are supposed to be highly educated, ( as in why need a union to protect them), so employment should not be a problem.

Any other business would be making the hard cuts and changes needed to survive. I know I have.

My opinion on government benefits is that it should have a profit/loss mechanism, if the city, state, school cannot balance the budget this year, no retirement funds and cuts in health care are in order next year. There are  no guarantees in the world, just ask the secured bondholders of GM.

video audio portion played on WTCM-AM Traverse City yesterday morning. Very good.

For every Wendy Day sitting on school boards, there are about 200 people sitting on school boards that are in the hip pocket of the MEA. To add to the burden of electing non-MEA clones to boards, many local newspapers that could carry news about alternatives are in the hip pocket of the union doing a NY Times clone routine and won't give fair coverage to non-MEA clones.

    Great Job! (none / 0) (#3)

Great Job Kyle!  At the MEA conference last Spring they suggested we check out "Sicko" by Michael Moore to find otu what will happen if we, as teachers, lost MESSA.  Nice.  Districts have a hard time fighting back against the union thugs of the MEA.  Why was I at the conference? Because I am forced to be part of the MEA if I want to teach.  Right to work is a beautiful thing....
