    Update [2009-4-15 16:41:23 by Nick]:As promised...

Update [2009-4-15 15:42:44 by Nick]:Michigan State Police are reporting that overhead shots indicate the crowd was between four and five THOUSAND people strong.

Just got back from Lansing's Tax Day Tea Party.  Wowzah.  What an event and what a turn out.  We'll have to wait for the official estimates but as you can see from the images below, we're talking THOUSANDS.  Plural.

Folks showed up from across the state in droves to tell the politicians in Lansing and Washington, DC that enough is enough. Enough taxes.  Enough spending.  Enough growth to the deficit and the national debt.

There wasn't a candidate to hock.  There wasn't one specific piece of legislation to protest.  This wasn't about unrest with the electoral process. This was an event that brought together Michiganders of every Party and political persuasion to express their frustration with the tax and spend status quo.

Hopefully you had a chance to attend the event yourself, watch it live via UStream or attend one closer to home.  Either way, take a gander at just a few of these pictures and you'll get a sense for the feel.

And stay tuned.  Working on getting some video cut that'll let attendees tell you in their own words why they made the trek.

Wow.  Talk about an awesome response to a call for action.  If I didn't live eight hours away, I'd have been there.  And I would have had a lot of fun.

It was awesome.  Huge turnout; can't wait to hear the numbers.  A few nuts in the mix, but all peaceful and friendly in my area.

. . . and cannot verify if I'm in any of the pics (temporarily behind a firweall that's getting in the way).  I spoke with the lieutenant in charge of the MSP detail and he said that the overhead estimate was at least 4,000.  The FOX-47 reporter said his on-the-ground estimate was closer to 6,000.

Nick and Jason, sorry I missed you.

I think maybe it took a President as brazenly far left as Obama to really shake up America. maybe generations from now we will look back at what was started today and see the beginning of real "change" in America, change that gives power back to the people.

What a great rally! Great video too Nick.

It's time we return to our conservative principles to turn Michigan and our country around!

The weather cooperated (except it was a challenge keeping all my balloons disciplined) and the speakers were terrific.  Kudos to Joan and Leon and everyone else who spearheaded this!

The LSJ reported the Park Service's estimate was 5,000 people, based on how far the crowd stretched.  I don't think anyone expected it would be that big.  We even wowed Dawson Bell at the Free Press; he called our signs "impressive."

    Nick,

It was wonderful to see you there, and I really like the picture Jason took of me, Chetly and you. Third from last.

I'm obviously the old man in the bunch, but somebody had to be.
