HUGE energy at Lansing Tea Party

3 days.  That's all the time three of Michigan's top RIGHTY bloggers had to put together a Lansing Tea Party to tell the federal government and the politicians that enough is more than enough.

What started as a twitter conversation between local RIGHTY bloggers... Joan from The World According to Me, Wendy Day from For a Better Day and twitter-maven MelanieAnn79, turned into an event that drew hundreds of taxpayers to the Capitol steps from all across Michigan.

Wendy, Joan and the team will be blogging about the event in their own awesome way but I wanted to give them each a shout-out and a big congrats on an amazing turn-out, that had everyone buzzing, from both regular citizens, moms, dads and kids all the way to the mainstream media...

Folks are fed up and they are not going to take it any more. These weren't Republicans and they weren't Democrats.  Both parties were roundly and lustily booed for their hands in the Congress's recent out-of-control spending.  These were Michiganders coming together simply to say enough is enough.

Just a few photos from after the event as folks mulled about following the program, discussing politics and where our nation goes from here...

I had too much going on to make it up to Lansing. Any crowd over 100 is good on a workday during business hours.

    Great Turnout! (none / 0) (#2)

Looks like a great turnout! I really wish I could have been there. However, I do get the honor of being in the belly of the beast in D.C. CPAC is a blast though!

I checked the link at Pajamas Media every day this week and never saw any notice.  I could have easily walked over!  If you have another one, please advertise more widely.  Thanks.

that you will now consider organizing another march/tea party on businesses like Citigroup and the like.  There are private industries that need to be demonstrated against as well.

But these corporations are taking your tax money as well, with no real oversight yet to speak of.  I understand the protest, but private entities should not be spared, as they have proven they are just as reckless as our state and national governments.

    Well done. (none / 0) (#10)

Ya done good folks. Maybe I'll be free to get there if you do it again.

I wish I could have gone, but money and time are quite tight. My thanks to everyone who went and showed the colors.

    ...in organizing.

Great job in getting what you've done in the time allotted (300 people in 3/4 days...very not bad).

Is there any word on having this turn into a yearly event?

Giving people a year to plan, and check to see if there are any competing events, would definitely help boost turnout if this were to continue.

    Mark your calendars (none / 0) (#16)
