Dem House candidate Steve King keeps it classy

If you could build the ideal political candidate a series of traits would pop immediately to mind.  Trust.  Leadership.  Responsibility.  Ethics.  A clean criminal record.  We find them here and there, one candidate with one trait, one with another but it's a rare man who can combine each into that perfect package.  Sadly, it's not nearly as rare to find men who lack every desirable quality and substitute in their place less encouraging character traits.  Of course, that type of package is typically what excites Michigan Democrats.

So when they found a man who was guilty not only of things like abandoning his wife and ignoring legal obligations but actually had an arrest warrant issued in his name, well, stop the presses, they'd found a winner!  With a resume like that it was only a matter of time before MDP and the House Dem Campaign Committee grabbed Livonia resident Steve King and shoved an affidavit of identity in his lap.

King is running for Michigan's 19th House District in Wayne County.  He is also running from the law.  His recent judicial indiscretions include:

  • Sept. 6, 2006, King was ordered to appear before Judge Arthur Lombard. (03-335008-DM)

  • Feb. 14, 2007, King was ordered to appear before Judge Lombard for contempt of court regarding his lack of payment of spousal support (03-335008-DM)

  • Jan. 16, 2008, King was again ordered to appear before Judge Lombard for failure to pay spousal support. (03-335008-DM)

  • Feb. 13, 2008, Judge Lombard issued an arrest warrant for King for failure to appear in court and show cause why he had not paid spousal support. (03-335008-DM)

    Peach of a guy.

I don't know the former Mrs. King.  I suppose it's possible that she's an entirely unlikable shrill of a woman, ethically unworthy of receiving one red cent from her former beau.  Heck, she may have initiated the divorce proceedings.  Then again, she may be the sweetest woman on the face of the planet deserving of far more than her bum of an ex ever provided.  I don't know and I don't care... that's all far from the point.

When the law dictates that you pay X dollars you'd better pay X dollars.  Breaking the law is an option but it has consequences.  Things like arrest warrants.  Then again, it makes you the ideal Democratic candidate to join the Michigan House so I suppose it all comes out in the wash.

The exact reason for the RMGN petition drive? Need to keep people like this on the street and headed to the state house!!

The RMGN petition does not preclude candidates who owe spousal support from running for public office.  I guess Steve King gives new meaning to the Democrat Party's definition of "women and children first."

    Just exactly who I want... (none / 0) (#3)

Just exactly the guy I want telling me what I can and can't do.

This is exactly the kind of guy who would raise your taxes, and find 20 reasons why HE is exempt.

But I guess it's all fair.  When you think of the kind of people Democrats put up for leadership positions, he very well could have a long career ahead of him.  Do they allow voting on bills from a jail cell?
