Democratic Congressman John Dingell attacked South Korea during a luncheon for members of Michigan's congressional delegation at the Detroit Regional Chamber Mackinac Policy Conference.

At the end of a discussion on health care and international trade and commerce, Dingell said the "Koreans are every bit as good at screwing" Americans in the "world marketplace."

Asked moments afterwards to clarify his anti-South Korean comment, Dingell didn't recall what he said as he was led out of the room by his wife, Democratic National Committee member Debbie Dingell, and an unknown aide.

“I said what?” said Dingell, who clearly didn’t understand his statement against an American ally could offend some people. “Their IRS investigates you if you buy an American car. If they want to take offense to it, they are perfectly free to do so.”

The 81-year-old, who has held his House seat since 1955, is known for blasting the trade politics of South Korea, China and other U.S. economic partners.

I am sure the good Congressmen meant that Democrats are good a screwing Americans. He just misspoke. Maybe he has Ted Kennedy disease. Better have him take a breathalyzer test.

...didn't break into a tirade like this:

Professor Terguson: You remember that thing we had about 30 years ago called the Korean conflict? And how we failed to achieve victory? How come we didn't cross the 38th parallel and push those rice-eaters back to the Great Wall of China? [rips a desk apart] Then take the f@&^#g wall apart [shouts] brick by brick and nuke them back into the f@&^#g stone age forever? Tell me why! How come? Say it! Say it!

Thornton Melon: [incensed] All right. I'll say it. 'Cause Truman was too much of a p%&^ wimp* to let MacArthur go in there [shouts] and blow out those Commie bastards!

Professor Terguson: Good answer. Good answer. I like the way you think. I'm gonna be watching you.

Thornton Melon: [chuckling to his classmates] Good teacher. He really seems to care...About what, I have no idea.

Seoul time I'll agree with Dingell (none / 0) (#3)

Even Candice Miller agrees that South Korea has been abusing our goodwill for years. I remember she expressed great skepticism about a South Korean trade deal on WJR a few weeks ago. Can't blame South Korea for playing hardball in their own best interests, we could learn a thing or two from them. They are truly valuable partners outside of their government's taxing/inspecting/red-taping/blacklisting American cars.
