Previewing the Mackinac Policy ConferenceBy dennislennox, Section News
Welcome to RightMichigan.com's special coverage of the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce Mackinac Policy Conference, which begins tomorrow and runs through Saturday afternoon at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island.
While the 2008 election is in full swing, many attendees will be focused on the 2010 race for governor of Michigan. Most of the would-be governors are flocking to Mackinac Island later this week -- testing the waters, meeting potential supporters and most importantly, trying to raise the dollars to compete in an open-seat contest that could develop into a four-way primary on both the Republican and Democratic sides. Outside of Michigan politicos, the big name will be former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, a top surrogate for John McCain's presidential campaign who is currently serving as Victory '08 chairman for the Republican National Committee. Fiorina, who may run for governor of California in 2010, will address the conference on Thursday. There also promises to be interesting discussion on term limits, Michigan's future and metro Detroit-specific issues like mass transit. The full agenda has been posted on the Mackinac Policy Conference website. As the conference unfolds, stay tuned to RightMichigan.com for the latest scoop.
