Obstructionist of the House abandons principles, blocks lifesaving billBy Nick, Section News
House Speaker Andy Dillon is certainly no stranger to obstructionist politics. The man's consistently blocked Republican legislation, mired bills deep in the muck of Dem controlled committees and rammed others through the chamber, failing even to meet Constitutional requirements for debate and amendments. Dillon sees conservative legislation he kills it. And frankly, that's the man's prerogative. The Democrats control the House and Dillon is their elected leader. He's got the power. Great power. But you know what Spiderman says... Dillon doesn't, but you do. Earlier this year the Michigan State Senate approved SB 0776, a measure that would outlaw partial birth abortion here in Michigan. I don't need to remind anyone here on this site how a partial birth abortion is performed but the reality almost demands a re-telling. We all "know" intellectually that a living, viable human child is delivered feet first until only her head remains obscured. The abortionist plunges scissors into the base of her skull, inserts a vacuum cleaner into her head and suctions out her brain, instantly crushing her head under the weight of her mother's body. Like something out of a horror flick. The direct-to-video kind that no top-line distributor would touch. We know that's what happens. Technically. And even the majority of pro-aborts find the procedure entirely unacceptable. But some think it's pretty cool. The Gretchen Whitmers and Jennifer Granholms and Emily's Lists of the State. Butcher baby girls, no sweat. Andy Dillon? He claims to know better. He's one of many "pro-life" Democrats in the Michigan House of Representatives. Some estimate there are as many as 69 pro-lifers in the chamber. That's over a dozen Dems... including the man who decides when and how legislation sees the light of day. So when SB 0776 moved out of the Senate and over to the House it was an absolute certainty that it'd be voted on and approved almost immediately. Except it wasn't. "Pro-life" Speaker Andy Dillon buried the bill in the House Judiciary Committee where it lingers to this day. A bill that would pass with overwhelming bipartisan support in the House. A bill that Dillon would claim to personally support. Why? The common assumption around the Capitol is that Dillon made a deal with the devil to win the race for Speaker. To secure the votes he needed to gain the leadership position he's widely believed to have promised to scuttle any and all pro-life legislation that might come before the House. He sacrificed his personal ethics at the altar of ambition and innocent children are paying for it with their lives. Right to Life of Michigan has endorsed Dillon in the past and isn't particularly happy with his sudden about-face. They're planning to load the House chamber tomorrow with hundreds of men and women who want to defend innocent life. And I can't help but think back to one of the scariest verses in the Bible, warning believers against refusing to take a stand... the Lord says: I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm--neither hot nor cold--I am about to spit you out of my mouth. Revelation 3: 15-16 Right to Life is hoping to send the Speaker a message tomorrow. I think the scriptures already made their statement pretty clearly.
