Who are the NERD fund donors Mr Snyder?

    Raise the curtain.

That was a pretty dumb thing to say!

Juli that is gross stupidity or maybe grotesque senselessness idiocy or maybe we need to come up with a new word that covers this.  Moreover, it is probably not even the dumbest thing ever said by a Democrat because Juli is young and would not remember the stupid things said by Democrats before her time.

Maybe you could have a Top Ten List Nick?

Top Ten Dumbest Things Ever Said by a Democrat

I know, I know, probably impossible to limit it to ten, maybe categories of dumb?

Are we limited to state level? (none / 0) (#4)

Or can we include, say, Presidential candidates that say stupid stuff, such as Obama's fine assessment of what is wrong with small town America:

"And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

    Nice job.

Too bad you didn't light up a cigar at the end.

    Still, nice.

    Series of questions (none / 0) (#10)
by detroithuh on Sat Apr 12, 2008 at 09:46:27 AM EST
    Was Basham's comment stupid? Yup.

Was Bouchard's gesture nice? Yup. He is a pretty nice guy, after all.

Was Basham being malicious? I strongly doubt it.

Has Bouchard served in the military? Nope (although law enforcement is an admirable public service, just as the military is).

Has Basham served in the military? Yup. Twice, actually (USAF, Coast Guard Auxillary).

Have I served in the military? Nope.

Have you served in the military? I don't know, but you haven't mentioned a long and storied military career in any of your video posts yet.

Do you have friends serving overseas? Yes, and I applaud and respect them for doing so, just as I applaud and respect all of my friends who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan. I'll buy them cigars.

Does having friends serving overseas give you some sort of implied moral authority to rail against a man (one who has actually put on a uniform) for one stupid comment he made in a newspaper? Not particularly, as it seems like you're doing (correct me if I'm wrong).

Might Basham know a bit more about military service than college students like you or I? Yup.

Did Bouchard's office send out a press release drawing attention to the fact that he bought them cigars? I don't know.

Other than a press release, is there any other way the newspaper would pick up this "story"? I have no idea, but he is a politician, after all. Plus, I think it's unlikely that reporters are snooping around asking, "Hey Deep Throat, I'll keep your name out of the paper but we're hearing rumors from sources speaking on deep background that Bouchard is sending cigars to troops in Iraq. Can you confirm this? I mean, it's obviously highly sensitive and classified in nature, so like I said, I'll keep your name out of the ink."

Should Basham resign over his comments? Absolutely not.

    Are you overreacting? Yup.

    Regards,
    DetroitHUH?

You took the time to write quite the explanation.   Amongst all the questions, yeps, nopes, you missed the main thing here.

It's not required that you be gracious enough to admit that it was nit picking and (connect the dots here) why would one want to when it comes to our troops, if one cares. He says he does out of the other side of his mouth. Further, it was cruel.  There are a lot of military people and their family and friends who are subjected to hearing this. Flat out, it was petty rudeness. This stuff is just rank and frankly, as you pretend not to have noticed, it's pervasive.  A lot of people have had it with this moronic and dangerous stuff.

Study successful versus unsuccessful wars, and why they are such. Study out the law that requires this government to keep a strong military.  You can even allow yourself to pick out a few favorite wars that would have been more tragic had they not been waged.

If I'd made the clip it wouldn't have been a comedy!

People often quote how many troops we have.  Think about this, that's a lot of family members to tick off with not only careless comments, but much worse.

That you're not using the diplomacy skills you've shown in your post, to make a difference with hurtful, cruel, dangerous rhetoric is a waste.

So, if one is going to troll here, and the topic is our troops, I will not parse words...

    Kiss my grits.
