    CHANGE

    Since the word seems to be used a lot these days, let's have a dialogue about "change."  What kind of change is necessary?  In addition to showing how liberals' plans for change are wrong, I'd like to discuss the conservative perspective on change. Conservatives by definition want to conserve "what works" in our society but change what doesn't.

    Conservatives are known for standing athwart history yelling, "Stop! Wait a second. All change is not progress. Don't just buy the liberal progressive impulse to ever be looking forward. These strengths of ours come from standing on the shoulders of giants. Ask; what is it from our past, the entire thesis up to this point in time, that is worth conserving and protecting? Let's try to see what greatness from our past we need to carry forward. It's not necessarily change. It's in continuity that we have a meaning with our past. Maybe people from the past knew things and appreciated things that we have forgotten and we need to recover them."

    Conservative also understand the importance of prudent change. But instead of change based on impulse and emotion, conservatives try only to implement change because things aren't working or because there is evidence of a better way of doing things. Conservatives look to history to see how things might change in the future.

    So that leads me to one of the leading living conservative leaders, the walking think tank, Newt Gingrich, who has been talking a lot about change that has conservatives jumping to their feet in approval. In fact his last best selling book was titled Real Change.

    Newt was in Cnatti the other day and had a lot to say about change.  He spent a great deal of time talking about Detroit and Michigan that every conservative in Michigan should hear.

    Obama often talked about how he was a South Side activist on black social issues, Gingrich explains. It's the same area about which Oprah said the situation was so corrupt that she has given up on the south side of Chicago and started an all girl's school in Africa.

    I think it is critical that we go to the heart of the south side of Chicago or Detroit and ask; what isn't working? What has to change?

    What conservatives are offering as change to solve these problems? Watch the brilliant speech;

    Let's discuss prudent change.

    Change. What do you think?
