    Who are the NERD fund donors Mr Snyder?

    Raise the curtain.

    Who Will be the Next House GOP Leader?

    Yesterday MIRS reported that Rep. Elsenheimer will not run for re-election so he can run for a seat on the State Appeals Court.  Rep. Elsenheimer was the most likely candidate to succeed Leader DeRoche for the top spot in the Republican caucus next term.

    With Elsenheimer out who is going to step up and be the leader next term?  Reps Hildenbrand, Green, Proos, Meekhof, and Schuitmaker are already on the leadership team.  Will it be one of them or someone new?

    And there are some fantastic names on that list.

    No one should consider this an endorsement or a slight at any of the other folks but if you're going to go with a third term member Schuitmaker's name jumps right out to me.

    Of course I've got a handful of female friends who'd probably want to make an argument for Representative Hildenbrand... not entirely work related arguments either.  Pssshhh.  Girls.

    Leadership ambitions (none / 0) (#3)

    I know that a number of reps have started leadership PACs in the last couple of months, maybe that is an indication of who is planning on making a run.  I heard that Rep. Calley has been doing a lot of fund raising for his PAC, and that Rep. Meekhof has raised over 20k in the first two months of the year for his.

    Am I missing anyone who has been doing a lot of fund raising lately?

    should be the one among the caucus that actually gets in front of our problems, and retools the way the house GOP does business.

    because I haven't heard anyone speak to it.  But, if they want the job, we should listen to all and decide.

    No need for names right this second.

    Some big RINOs here (none / 0) (#8)

    From Capitol Confidential:

    Ten of 17 budget bills for fiscal 2008 spent more money than was enacted for those same budgets in fiscal 2007. The total additional spending over 2007 enacted law represented by these 10 bills was $1,470,045,900. The amount of this total approved by each lawmaker is listed below.

    Green (R) $327,710,900
    Meekhof (R) $372,445,900
    Hildenbrand (R) $121,000,000
    Proos (R) $1,230,835,000
    Schuitmaker (R) $1,092,835,000

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Looks like fans of limited government lose no matter which of them is it - they just lose more with some than with others.
    Proos in particular looks like a real winner. Here's my favorite of his current bills:
    2007 House Bill 4599, to rename a portion of Highway M-63 in Berrien County the "Harry Gast Parkway."
    For you youngsters, Harry Gast was approps chair for 100 years and had a large horn protruding from his forehead (RINO).
    Proos = RINO (none / 0) (#9)
    Proos should automatically be eliminated from contention for being a spendaholic RINO.  Don't forget that Proos used to work for Congressman Fred Upton who represents the liberal wing of the Republican Party.
    GOP RINOS (none / 0) (#10)
    by Victor Laszlo on Tue Mar 25, 2008 at 09:27:31 PM EST
    I am getting sick and tired of GOP representatives who brag about being conservative to the grass roots in the home district only to return to Lansing and act like a bunch of spendaholic liberals.
    Calley another RINO (none / 0) (#11)
    by Angry White Male on Tue Mar 25, 2008 at 09:47:56 PM EST
    I see Calley mentioned in a comment. From that same Capitol Confidential report giving the amount of additional spending above the previous year that each legislator voted to approve:
    Calley (R) $1,463,545,900
    Here's one of his bills:
    2007 House Joint Resolution R, to place before voters in the next general election a Constitutional amendment to extend the term limits of state representatives and senators, allowing the former to serve up to six terms of two-years each, and the latter up to three terms of four years each.
    How many ways can you spell RINO?
    Proos Voted for State Police HQ (none / 0) (#13)
    by Victor Laszlo on Wed Mar 26, 2008 at 07:22:36 AM EST
    If I am not mistaken, Proos also voted for the controversial new State Police HQ to be built that is only going to end up lining the pockets of Joel Ferguson.  Frankly, Proos should be kicked out of the GOP.
    OK - how 'bout he was second biggest spending rino (none / 0) (#15)
    by Angry White Male on Thu Mar 27, 2008 at 03:03:33 PM EST
    Of all Repubs only RINO Bill Caul spent more of the big tax hikes than Brian Calley. Combine that with an apparent contempt for the will of the people on term limits and I think it tells you all you need to know about this guy's limited government, fiscal conservative pretensions. He's a statist, not a "conservative."
    Whether one supports term limits or not is not the question. 59 percent of the people voted for them, and proposals from a legislator to put some gimmicky watering down on the ballot are the equivalent of school boards trying again and again to sneak a millage hike past voters.
