      Don't suppose this will translate all that well as breaking news in, say, Livonia, but it's a big deal here in Grand Rapids.

      WZZM 13 is reporting that Kevin Belk has been named the new Chief of Police for the Grand Rapids Police Department.  He replaces Harry Dolan who stepped aside some months ago.

      Belk has served the city for several decades and was a Captain on the force until this morning.

      Conservative v. Liberal politics aside, GRPD couldn't have possibly done any better.  Belk is an awesome guy.  Great choice!

      It is great to see a local officer get the promotion. Rising through the ranks is a great way to make it to the top.
