Pro-Abort Rep. Rebekah Warren = A FailureBy Andrew Shirvell, Section News
Democratic Representative Rebekah Warren represents the 53rd State House District, which is centered in Ann Arbor. Prior to being elected to the Legislature in November 2006, Warren served as the Executive Director of the Michigan Abortion Rights Action League, or "MARAL-Pro-Choice Michigan." She is the daughter-in-law of radical pro-abortion Rep. Alma Wheeler Smith, who is currently serving her second term representing the 54th State House District.
Like her liberal loony-tune mother-in-law, Warren is a hard-core pro-abortion zealot, but a review of Warren's legislative record over the past year reveals that she has been an utter and complete FAILURE - much to my delight! Let's start with the fact that Warren has not sponsored one single piece of legislation of any real import for Michigan, according to a quick search of the current legislative session via the Michigan Legislature website. The few bills Warren has sponsored are stuck in committee or are otherwise dead in the water in the Michigan Senate. In fact, Warren seems to be stuck in the past as she was the primary sponsor of a bill this past year memorializing Congress "to adopt and submit to the states for ratification an amendment to the United States Constitution to provide for equal rights for women." Umm. . .wasn't this a fight that was decided in the 1970s? If Warren is so concerned about what Congress does, why didn't she run for that body instead? It's nice to know that Warren is busy wasting her time "memorializing" Congress while doing nothing concrete for her constituents. Read on. . .
Well, almost nothing. Since this is an election year, Warren is already busy pandering to Ann Arborites by introducing her landmark bill creating "Bo Schembechler Day":
"The bill would create a new act to designate the day upon which the first University of Michigan home football game occurs each year as Bo Schembechler Day in the state of Michigan. The bill would specify that the legislature recognizes the outstanding contributions made by Glenn Edward "Bo" Schembechler during his tenure as head football coach at the University of Michigan, where he coached from 1969 to 1989." I am a Wolverine myself, but, come on, is this the one piece of (potentially successful) legislation that Warren really wants to emphasize to her constituents? Pathetic. Pro-life House Speaker Andy Dillon has purposely kept Warren and Rep. Alma Wheeler Smith from scratching their gritty paws too much when it comes to their obsession with abortion "rights." (Some of the animosity stems from the fact that Wheeler Smith had designs on the speakership herself when it became vacant after the last legislative elections in 2006). For instance, Dillon assigned Warren as chair of the Great Lakes and Environment House Committee, which has consumed what little time Warren puts into her job as a legislator. But even with her new crusade - regulating water usage in Michigan - Warren has shown herself to be as politically inept as they come. For example, Warren sponsored a so-called "Town Hall" meeting this past week on the campus of the University of Michigan that had only thirteen people in attendance (who were, in fact, mostly Warren's own employees!). Ha! See: http://media.www.michigandaily.com/media/storage/paper851/news/2008/02/12/State/Warren.Pushes.Water. Conservation.Bill-3203128.shtml The meeting was suppose to highlight a package of bills to (further) regulate Michigan's water usage - bills that Warren is actively and eagerly pushing in the House. It's funny, but her own employees were openly saying that the fiscal cost of the bills would probably result in higher room and board costs for U of M students: "LSA freshman Seth Soderborg, Warren's employee, said because the University would have to more closely monitor its water usage, students living in residence halls might have higher room and board costs if the bill passes. `If you live in the dorms, this is obviously going to affect your housing costs and your living costs,' he said." Way to garner support! Although, Warren and her fellow latte-lovin' liberals wouldn't probably mind the room and board increases; that is, as long as they can figure out a way to make Michigan taxpayers foot the bill somehow. Anyway, I am pleased that, during her first year in the Michigan Legislature, Warren has proven to be so utterly useless a force for the real love of her life - promoting the murder of innocent, unborn children. Hopefully, Warren continues to be mired in advocating useless memorializations to Congress, creating silly holidays, and wasting her time on staged "Town Hall" meetings. Here's to another year of foolishness from Rep. Rebekah Warren.
