As I check out the Detroit News I see that the new messiah President-Elect Barack Obama has named our very own job-killing Governor Granholm to be on his transition economic advisory team.  What advice does she have to offer?

Is she going to offer advice on how to raise taxes during a recession and get away with it?  Or, how to cope as a leader when 9% of your people are unemployed?  Maybe how to attract a company to create 100 jobs while your home industry sheds thousands of jobs.

Maybe they should get a college professor that is a fan of socialist policies to add to the panel.  Oh wait, they did.  They brought back David Bonior to help out.  He was just a congressman for way too many years who killed thousands of baby pine tree seedlings every election year by leaving them unattended on peoples porches in October.  What advice is he supposed to bring to the table?

And so the dark times begin...

That is so mind blowingly stupid it is hilarious!

    Don't blame me. I didn't vote for either of them. (none / 0) (#2)

Those that voted for either of them get exactly what they deserved.

"why do we deserve it too?"

Because republicans were in control of everything in 2000 and they let power go to their heads and started acting and spending like drunken democrats.  They abandoned their conservative roots and told their base to take a hike.  They chose feel good legislation over common sense government reform.  They chose big government programs and wild spending over fiscal responsibility.  Republicans took it on the chin Tuesday, and deservedly so, that why!

I was not in Control.  I'm a Republican.  You might be a Republican.  Many of us are Republicans, and we were not in control.

The quote is that the "people" get the government they deserve.  I don't deserve the punishment that is coming.  Many Republicans don't deserve it.

Voting third party didn't put us in control.  Voting in anger in 2006 didn't put us in control or help fix things, like so many thought.

Start working on local campaigns, and build up good Republicans from the local levels.  Democrats do this very well.  Sarah Roberts was a nobody 2 years ago, became a County Commissioner and now State Representative making $80k/year because the Democrats groomed her and spent money on her.  There's no reason you, your friends and local republicans can't do the same thing.

There's no reason we can't come up with a message.  Newt Gingrich is certainly trying to bring Republicans together with a unified message.  But if everyone has "the solution' or "the message", then we get bogged down in going too many directions.

This is why the Republican party, like all big organizations, is a committee driven structure.  Convince people you're right.  Be a leader by being a thought leader, by being a people person, and moving things forward.  Be positive, be passionate, and be smart.

    You're right John (none / 0) (#6)

you were not in control, but the people we voted for were.  We expected them to adhere to a conservative message, but they didn't.  In fact when the base complained we told to shove it, the leaders knew better.  Sorry John, but republicans got what was coming to them for not listening to the the people who put them in office.  Unfortunately we are collateral damage.

The republicans have no coherent message any longer.  They have lost their moral compass and no longer can be trusted by the people.  When you lose that trust it can take years to regain it, but,  I doubt that they will ever get that trust back and that is why I'm such an advocate for the only party left, (libertarian,) that has a small government message.

    Wrong again, Mark (none / 0) (#7)

Since 2002, Jack Brandenburg was the only Republican I voted for in office.  And he listened to me.  Heck, he was seven steps ahead of me.  The next highest was George W. Bush, who may have failed at listening to the base while being President of 300 million across 50 states.

Which Republicans did YOU elect that weren't listening to you?

    Not wrong John (none / 0) (#8)
by MarkMuylaert on Fri Nov 07, 2008 at 05:13:43 PM EST
If Brandenburg was the only republican you voted for than I take it you split your ticket.

When I voted in 2004 I voted a straight republican ticket, so I hold them all responsible.  If you want to split hairs go right ahead and be my guest, but all republicans were/are to blame.

BTW, Gaffney was my rep and did not listen to my e-mail complaints, nor did he take any of my calls.  He was as useless as teats on a bull, (pardon me ladies,) just like all RINO's.

    Split ticket? (none / 0) (#9)
by John Galt on Fri Nov 07, 2008 at 08:37:30 PM EST
There are no other Republicans between Brandenburg and the top.  County Commissioner, State Senator, Congress critter, Governor... all Democrats.

I can vote Republican, but if they don't get elected, what am I going to hold them accountable for?

Gaffney would keep getting elected doing what he's doing.  It's the nature of the area.  But the folks who voted for Gaffney voted for Obama, so it's no surprise.

It goes beyond ideology.  Politics also has a local component.  Someone running for Sander Levin's seat needs to appeal to Democrats.  Someone running for Mike Bishop's seat doesn't need to.  And sometimes you just get lucky.
