Mid-Michigan's WILX:

Carl Wheeling, a 15-year-old freshman at Sexton High School, was walking home from school in early October when he was asked if he wanted to register to vote.

"She didn't really ask me my age, so I guess I signed it or whatever," Wheeling said...

"I wrote down the truth; February 9, 1993," Wheeling said.

A couple weeks later Carl's stepdad went to open the mail and inside he found a Voter I.D. card in his 15-year-old stepson's name.

Lansing City Clerk Chris Swope... says that Wheeling's birth date is listed in July of 1985 and their system; a different month, day and year, that's why he says it wasn't a data entry error.

"I don't know if he put down his correct birth date and then the person that he gave it to changed it so that it would look like he was eligible," Swope said.

Michigan's Voter Identification laws?  They likely wouldn't have caught this one, either.  Swope told the station that his poll workers are instructed to check only addresses and names, not birthdates.

They said the next generation had a chance to decide this election.  Just never figured they were talking kids two months removed from Jr. High.
