    Michigan for Sale on Ebay!

You may (or not) remember the headline back in October. Apparently someone had put the State of Michigan up for sale on EBay - in response to the budget debacle.

That someone was me. Read more below:

After about a four day stretch of non stop blogging about what was going on in regard to the crisis, I decided it was time to have a little fun. Little did I know what that "fun" would cost me personally.

My husband works for the State of Michigan. When he returned to work on Monday, he received a call from his district supervisor essentially telling him to take down the EBay ad. My husband explained that it was his wife who put it up. A few minutes later, another call was received - take it down now.

I received a phone call from my husband asking me to take it down. I did so immediately. I wish, in hindsight that I would have left it up, but I didn't want to cause him problems at work.

The next day, my husband was put on a 10-day paid suspension pending investigation.

For the conclusion of the story, and the actual Ebay listing, you can find it here.

How silly of the Gov. (none / 0) (#1)

This is just another illustration as to the vindictiveness of Governor MoleRattles administration in acting outside Michigan's laws and with wasting taxpayers' money.

From what I've got from reading your post, the investigator was on a fishing expediation looking for your husband to say something that could be used against him.

I'm also curious as to what his union has done in this matter?

Has done nothing - other than send a rep to sit in on the investigation meeting.  Not surprising, though.

Sorry to hear that. (none / 0) (#4)

Have they given any explaination for sitting on their backsides?

For a matter like this, one would think that they would be more involved.

I mean, to be honest, he didn't really "lose" anything because it was a paid suspension.

They were just "looking into" crimes.

While I think it was a bit of an over reaction on the government's part, I think it was immature of you to put the state up on ebay.  MI residents and politicians are all frustrated at the way the economy is running, but I'm starting to think that it'd be bad no matter who was in office.   The backbone of MI's economy--the auto industry--continues to crumble faster than new industries and jobs can be brought to the state.

Back to the ebay listing though...can we honestly be surprised at a loss of rights when something like the patriot act exists?

"A bit of an overreaction on the government's part".

That is laughable at best - overreacting is what you do when you squish a rubber spider thinking that it is real.

This is way more than that.  To trump up felony charges against someone that did nothing.  To put a person who has had an absolutely impeccable record on a suspension.  And, that is just on my husband's end.

The arguement isn't the maturity level of what I did.  If trying to loosen everyone up with a touch of humor is considered "immature" then I venture to guess that most of the population is in fact "immature".

Whatever your opinion on my actions - I don't care.  The whole point of this is that they were/are trying to keep me from saying something.

And, that is a very mature topic.

retained an attorney immediately for that reason - I don't put a lot of stock in them, either.

The hearing came and went - I couldn't post the story until I was sure that he would have no further, uh... actions taken against him.

I can't tell you how many complaints I've heard about union reps doing nothing.  I had one when "charges" (later dropped, thanks to a phone call from my college roommate's attorney father...)supposedly "help" me - they didn't do a thing.

Good luck - unless there is some confidentiality agreement, I'd be all over the media with this.  This is a great example of how "nice" She is not!
