Kowall to introduce resolution opposing Democrat plan vote to increase gas taxBy Nick, Section News
This just came across the wire... a big THANK YOU to Eileen for taking this thing on head first!
Oakland County Commissioner Eileen Kowall (R-White Lake) today announced she would soon introduce a resolution calling on all state legislators to oppose a plan by Democrat Speaker of the House Andy Dillon to increase the gas tax following the November 2008 elections. As first reported by blogger Nick De Leeuw of Right Michigan (www.rightmichigan.com), Speaker Dillon told the Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association last Thursday that `his caucus was going to take a vote on raising the gas tax but not until after the general election in November after each of his members was safely re-elected.' According to Right Michigan, the featured attraction of the evening was a panel discussion with Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop and House Speaker Andy Dillon. Senior capitol correspondent Tim Skubick served as moderator for the event and asked both Bishop and Dillon if there would be a vote to raise the gas tax after the November election. Bishop said `no,' while Dillon said `it is probable.' "Just a few months after hanging a massive tax increase around the necks of Michigan's families, Lansing's tax-happy liberals are grabbing for more," Kowall said. "Michigan's families are tapped out and can't afford any more taxes, and I will soon introduce a resolution calling on Michigan's legislators to listen to our families and oppose any more tax increases."
