BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE: Dillon has another tax-hike in store for you after the November election!!!

One of our loyal readers here at Right Michigan tipped me off about a shocking Q & A session at last night's Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association (MITA) Conference yesterday evening at the Soaring Eagle in Mt. Pleasant.  Andy Dillon told the audience that his caucus was going to take a vote on raising the gas tax but not until after the general election in November after each of his members was safely re-elected.  Here's how it went down...

The featured attraction of the evening was a panel discussion with Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop and House Speaker Andy Dillon being moderated by Tim Skubick.  This sort of event is pretty standard fare and typically doesn't offer much in the way of controversy but Skubick certainly has a way of catching politicians off guard.  The entire program was going fine and the legislative leaders were appropriately on message when the following exchange took place... (I'm sure we'll read about it in MIRS or the LSJ sooner rather than later but remember, you read it here first!)...

Skubick: `Will you take a vote on the legislation to raise the gas tax before the November election?'

    Bishop: "No."

    Dillon: "No."

Skubick: `Will there be a vote to raise the gas tax after the November election and once all of your members are safe from voter scrutiny during the lame-duck portion of the session?"

    Bishop: "No."

    Dillon: "It is probable."

I'm told that an audible gasp went up out of the audience (there were about two hundred industry professionals and interested parties in attendance).  Skubick followed up and Dillon reiterated that "it's probable."  I guess the look on his face went pretty sour pretty fast after he realized what he'd just confirmed in public.

There's a reason Dillon is considered the Speaker of the tax-hike-caucus.  They already passed the largest tax hike in the history of the State of Michigan and even though they're telling us that they're through with the rate hikes we knew they were lying.  It's all politics with these guys.  They want to convince you that last year's vote was "really tough" and that they won't do it again but from the mouth of their own legislative leader, they've got one planned for immediately after the election once they're safely out of the reach of the voters!

He didn't say it was possible.  He said it was probable!

Hold on to your wallets, boys and girls.  The House Democrats are planning on goreing us again.

Isn't DeRoche already a sponsor on a gas tax increase?

    Knuckle Head Speaker (none / 0) (#3)

You have to be frickin' kidding me.  This knuckle head Speaker of the House, Andy Dillon, is going to jam another tax increase down the voters throats right after the November election.  Well, I guess we're just going to have to make sure he doesn't have a majority in the House then come January 2009.

I wonder where all the defenders of the Dems are now? The only one that came on here is NoviDumbocrat to ask about a Republican who might be sponsoring a tax increase...duh! We've already seen that we have enough of those (about 6 too many).

Where's the outrage about Nick's skewed reporting? You know, the same bullshine that we see each time anything is posted here about how the Dems are trying to steal our money.

So much for compassion for the poor... (none / 0) (#5)

This should be a sign to any independent who thought that Democrats actually have any compassion for the poor and how they only want to tax the rich.  Taxing gas more when it is already at $3.00 a gallon is just a kick to the stomach to all the people struggling in this state.  They have already started taking more of peoples incomes with their Income Tax increase.  They have taking money from businesses that could have been used for investment to create jobs with their "surcharge" on the business tax.  And now, they want to increase the cost for everyone just to drive to few jobs that are left.

    Are you sure it's not http://www.legislature.mi.gov/(S(mhn2ws453fezb3v1gxfdjw55))/mileg.aspx?page=GetObject&objectname=2007-HB-4576&queryid=2164 6944

    Sponsor  Hoon-Yung Hopgood (Yes, he's a Democrat)

    Categories  Transportation, motor fuel tax

Transportation; motor fuel tax; diesel fuel tax; increase, and provide phase-in period. Amends sec. 8 of 2000 PA 403 (MCL 207.1008).
Last Action: 05/24/2007 - notice given to discharge committee

    OR MAYBE...

Sponsor  Coleman Young (Yes, he's a Democrat too)

Categories  Transportation, motor fuel tax; Local government, financing

Transportation; motor fuel tax; municipalities to levy and collect gas tax; allow. Amends sec. 22 of 2000 PA 403 (MCL 207.1022).
Last Action: 07/25/2007 - printed bill filed 07/25/2007

    BUT IT'S OKAY NOVIDEMO...

The analysis on the Craig DeRoche bill says "The intent of the Motor Fuel Tax Act is "to require persons who operate a motor vehicle
on the public roads or highways of this state to pay for the privilege of using those roads
    and highways."

We know you and your members at MichLibel just don't think we're paying enough for the privilege of using roads and highways.  So while DeRoche might be in the pocket of MITA, we know you guys are cheering the increase.  STICK IT TO DUH MAN, right?

Whoa, two democrats increasing fuel tax... (none / 0) (#10)

Doesn't add to what Nick said?

And because a Republican sponsored a bill somehow proves Democrats aren't trying to raise our taxes?  Because I see Democrats trying to raise our taxes more than Republicans.  So where's the deceit?

NoviDemocrat, come back when you'd rather be yourself and not emulate CommieGuru.
