State Republican officials were preparing this morning to announce details of the Oct. 9 debate at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center in Dearborn. It will be televised by cable network CNBC, and co-sponsored by The Wall Street Journal and the Michigan Republican Party. The business focus -- CNBC is NBC's all-business network and The Wall Street Journal the nation's pre-eminent business newspaper -- signals a focus on the economic issues that are at the top of Michigan voters' concerns, said Saulius "Saul" Anuzis, Michigan GOP chairman.

So the circus is coming to town? (none / 0) (#6)
by NoviDemocrat on Thu Sep 06, 2007 at 05:13:59 PM EST
Thanks for the free entertainment. It should be fun to see the Republicans fall over themselves to proclaim who wants to stay in Iraq the longest. We're almost to $500 billion in war spending on Iraq. US deaths have been higher every month this year compared to the same month deaths last year. US wounded is approaching 25,000. Please let us all know when the Iraqis are going to stand up so our troops can stand down. Or did we forget about all that?

While the Republicans come to town, the Dems will be avoiding this state's issues as if the state had the plague.  While the Republicans come to earn our votes, perhaps the Dems can go get the votes of the 400 VW workers going to Virginia, or the 2000 Phizer workers that will be leaving.

Good Job Saul on bringing the candidates hear that want to fix Michigan's issues rather than avoid them.

to explain how well $500 billion, 3700+ US dead and 23,000 US injured has brought us that much closer to leaving Iraq. We'll stand down when the Iraqis stand up, right?

Dem with the Wrong Objective (none / 0) (#9)
by RightMacomb on Thu Sep 06, 2007 at 11:10:25 PM EST
The objective is not to just leave Iraq...the objective is to achieve victory.  If the Dem strategy is to believe that cutting and running and retreating is considering winning in Iraq, then the Republican chance in 2008 just got better.

As I am one of those evil, dastardly military supporters in Afghanistan I find if ironic that the D-rats will not come to Michigan. I for one wish I could be at the Presidential debate but I am a little busy right now. I can't wait to get back into the political fight, after I get home from this fight.  Great work Saul. Nick, keep up the great work brother.

Why is it that the D-rats are never positive about anything? Obviously what is good for America is bad for the Democrat party and what is good for the Democrat party is bad for America.

for all of you busy banging the war drums, all of the questions and hearings and the rest are just smoke and mirrors that obscure the fact that the US is not leaving Iraq, not as long as GWB is President and from the sound of it, if any of the Republican candidates get elected, not as long as they are President. GWB decided long ago that there's no way that we're leaving Iraq while he's President because in his mind, leaving equals defeat. He doesn't care how many billions we spend, how many US troops die, how many come home injured, we're not leaving on his watch. The Dems don't have the votes in Congress to break the Republican filibuster so GWB will get his wish. Too bad that come 2009, we'll be hearing the same claims of "victory is right around the corner" that we heard in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007....

Thanks for what you're doing, Gerry! (none / 0) (#13)

Fitting, for Michigan.  Not that the Democrats seem to get that.  They're still not coming.

    Republican answers for Michigan's economy:

    1. Cut taxes

    2. Cut spending, especially "waste, fraud and abuse"

    3. Eliminate government "red tape" (which means any rules that businesses don't want to have to follow)

    4. Make Michigan a Right-to-Work state (this probably isn't on the Presidential candidates talking points but who knows, one of the 9 or ten or however many are running might say it)

    5. Stop illegal immigration (except John McCain)

To any question, respond with one of these 5 answers. On every second response, include a reference to Ronald Reagan. On every third response, tell everyone how you are more like Reagan than any of the other candidates.

Make sure to avoid any reference to the current federal budget deficits or how they came about under a Republican President and Congress. Don't talk about CAFE standards and the unwillingness of  a Republican President to oppose them.

    Ru Paul trolls (none / 0) (#22)

    make me sick.

Strategic Withdrawl.  Nice fancy name.  It adds up to the same.  Line everyone up, and get them out as quickly as possible.  The only thing that makes it strategic is that those troops can't just walk or run back home... they need planes and boats.

Guess what. We have to leave someday, just like we eventually left Viet Nam.

Ru Paul seems to be okay with us staying in Korea and Germany?  Leftovers from wars we won years ago.  It's okay for us to stay in Kosovo?  I see, we're warmongers... and Congresscritter Ru Paul wants to use the military for a giant "meals on wheels" program.

But he wants us to cut-and-run from Iraq, like we cut-and-run from Vietnam.  It's decades later, and the Vietnam cut-and-run still has a negative connotation on American fortitude.

I think it's quite queer that anytime someone wants to use the military that they become labeled "bloodthirsty" or "chickenhawk".  I'm surprised you're not advocating Ru Paul completely disband the military, so that "bloodthirsty chickenhawks" can't take us to war - never, ever again.
