Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has had his share of attacks that he has had to defend against, and I for one have always questioned his politics. However today I have to say that I am proud of Mr. Kilpatrick for doing the right thing in regards to the POTUS Primary on January 15. You know, that is the one that the Democratic Candidates have pledged to skip. The mayor spoke to the Detroit News this afternoon.

"If the Democrats do not show up, I will not support anyone," the mayor said this afternoon.

The Mayor also credited Republicans for their quick and favorable response to the new Michigan Primary Date,

"We hear right away from the Republicans. They are coming to town."

I have to give credit to Mayor Kilpatrick on this one. He sees what is best for the state in this case and is not bowing down to the powers that be in the DNC. What I don't like is how the News gives credit for this bill to Granholm and other State Democratic Leaders, and adds in with support from Republican Officials. Especially considering the Democrats who have come out against the move.

Clinton, Edwards and Barack Obama are really taking some over this and deservedly so.

One of the big liberal blogs here in the state also had a front page piece basically crying "shame" on each of the candidates too.

Won't come to Michigan to ask for our votes?  Then we've got no reason to give them to you.

TI would bet that (none / 0) (#2)

the average Michigan voter is glad not to have presidential politics invading their TV, their phones and voice mail and their morning radio for the months leading up to a January primary. Sure, letting Iowa and New Hampshire monopolize the system is stupid. But the national parties need to put together a system that works. Why should Michigan be rewarded for breaking the rules?

    So you consider (none / 0) (#3)

a candidate asking for your vote constitutes a reward?

I consider it the bare minimum for consideration.
