Mark Schauer standing by his anti-Semite

Well, now we officially know where Mark Schauer stands on his Chief of Staff, Ken Brock's anti-Semitic comments about a former primary opponent.  Remember that Brock attempted to criticize David Nacht by calling him a liberal, Jewish trial lawyer.

Now being liberal and a trial lawyer, those may very well be negative things that would hurt a candidate running against Mark Schauer.  But how on earth is being Jewish a bad thing?

It's not.  Except in the eyes of Ken Brock.  And, apparently, Mark Schauer himself.  In a statement in this morning's Battle Creek Enquirer Schauer is standing by his anti-Semite.

"I've known Ken Brock for more than 25 years and rely on him as an aide and friend. He admitted what he said was wrong and has apologized both publicly and personally. I join him in that apology," Schauer said.

"I've spoken with Ken about this. He will continue serving as my chief of staff, and we will move forward on addressing the many challenges that face this district and our state."

I'm curious.  What exactly is Schauer apologizing for?  Because if it's for an anti-Semitic swipe then an apology simply is not enough.

Schauer's running for Congress.  He's the sitting Minority Leader of the Michigan Senate.  He's not a dog catcher.  He's not a private citizen.  What he and his staff do and say very much matters.

Anti-Semitism isn't a slap on the wrist offense, especially when it spills over into the public debate.  Especially when it is intentionally injected into that debate by an operative using his words to stir up fear and hatred.

If there's an apology then there's an admission of guilt.  And that demands action.  Ken Brock knowingly and intentionally poisoned the political debate in the 7th District but the damage of statements like his reverberate far further than a few counties.

All people, but especially a people with a history of victimization at the hands of hate mongers, a history of being targets, of being hated, reviled and ridiculed deserve far better from candidates for high office.  They deserve far better from human beings.

I don't usually expect much from Democrats in Lansing.  But I do expect human decency.  Mark Schauer should be ashamed of himself.

This saddens me. Mark stands by Brock's comments as if they were his own.  Disgusting.

Please explain the difference to me as to how Ken Brock's anti-Semite remarks offends this blog more so than Ismael Ahmed, you all know of him, two-penny Jenny just appointed him director of the Michigan Department of Human Services and there wasn't any objection to his anti-Semitism like this.

Mr. Ahmed, as Executive Director of ACCESS (the Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services), in 2002, ACCESS sponsored and funded the Second Annual Palestinian Students Divestment Conference at the University of Michigan. The conference's keynote speaker was Sami Al-Arian, the now-indicted, alleged leader of the Islamic Jihad terrorist group. His activities were well known at the time, including letters stating that "the merger with the brothers in Hamas" was almost complete and bragging of a successful bus-bombing in Israel. Other conference speakers included assorted anti-Semites and anti-Westerners who had previously exhorted violence against and murder of Jews.

When confronted on ACCESS' sponsorship of this conference, Ahmed - whose agency provides tax-funded "sensitivity training"-- told a reporter that it was a cultural activity for Arabic children in the area.

Why was not this publicized here as an outrageous appointment, Ismael Ahmed funds anti-Semitism not just make remarks about it.

for bringing that up... clearly, anti-Semitism is a problem in Democrat circles here in Michigan.

    And wrong is wrong.

Funny. The guy the remarks was about, David Nacht, accepted Ken Brock's apology and acknowledged Brock is not an anti-Semite. But you people here will not accept it and refuse to recognize the context - hell, it wasn't even a quote - the remark was made in. That clearly indicates it's all about politics with you and an attempt to give you something to beat a strong candidate over the head with.

    A true double standard.......... (none / 0) (#5)

it is simply amazing to me or anyone with common sense that there is such a double standard at play here.  A while back it was Buzz Thomas who made a racist comment about Leon Drolet, and the media for its part ignored it.  Mr. Drolet being a fine upstanding man even defended Thomas saying he wasn't a racist.  Now it's the Chief Of Staff of another democrat and still no media outlet has reported on this.

CG, you can cry a river all you want, but racist comments are racist comments, and to defend anyone who uses them, well that speaks volumes about that person.

    I don't expect anything (none / 0) (#6)

    from Democrats.

Why should we expect human decency from the party that promotes the secular humanism and the lack of respect for anyone that does not adhere to their socialist ideals?

Is it really human decency to actively promote the murder of innocent babies - either from abortion or embryonic stem cell "research"?

Let's think about who it is we are talking about here.

The better question to ask would be "Is there a shred of human decency left in the Democrat party?"  If so, show me your evidence.

And "what does that say about our society and people who continue to support these Democrat candidates and their policies?"
