BREAKING: House Dems to use smoke and mirrors on service tax, refuse to cut!

That's right, they're not planning on repealing it... they're planning on replacing it dollar for dollar during session tomorrow.

The business community has correctly identified the Democrats' new $613+ million sales tax on services as a job killer.  What Andy Dillon and his House Democrats have overlooked is the fact that a replacement of these tax dollars STILL takes over a half-billion out of the private sector, away from job makers and away from working moms and dads who would otherwise use that money to support their families.

And it's not like there isn't plenty to cut and reform to make up the difference.  The only thing stopping them from acting on the cuts is their rush to adjourn for another long vacation and the start of the hunting season.

Please click HERE to find YOUR State Representative, contact them and ask them to do the right thing.  To repeal the Democrat sales tax and to ACT on the House GOP list of cuts and reforms listed below.

    Read on...

Their list of proposed cuts includes:

    1.    Five percent legislator pay cut - $600,000

    2.    Michigan Business tax transition windfall - $219,400,000

    3.    Reexamine state employee benefits - $100,000,000

    4.    Department of Information Technology Reduction - $10,000,000

    5.    Competitively bid corrections services - $50,000,000

    6.    Eliminate tax exemption benefiting prisoners - $3,000,000

    7.    Streamline the Department of Community Health - $92,833,331

  • Reduction to Healthy Michigan Fund programming

  • Restructure Wayne County Community Mental Health

  • Reform 19-and 20-year olds non-mandatory coverage

  • Reform non-mandatory Medicaid caretaker coverage

  • Invest more money into Medicaid fraud investigations

Department of Human Services reforms - $109,499,998

  • Four year limit for able bodied welfare recipients

  • Privatize daycare eligibility

  • Daycare rate uniformity

    8.    Stop news appropriation to 21st Century Jobs program - $75,000,000

    9.    Eliminate the Community Service Commission Grant to train volunteers - $3,190,000

    10.    Remove the increase to the Treasury Department to implement the new taxes - $8,900,000

    11.    Continued reduction of public transit funding - $5,000,000

Revenue generated from the Service Tax: $614 million

GRAND TOTAL in savings from the House Republican plan: $677 million.

that Mrs. Mulhern wasn't going to let her taxes be wiped away. I was wondering why she wasn't all over the news with her petulant little scowl; she's got Andy Drillem to handle the dirty work.

No point in contacting the twit Corriveau about this, he has his marching orders.

    Don't Repeal Service Tax (none / 0) (#2)

Tactically, I would like to see the Senate Republicans kill any effort to repeal the service tax.  I think this service tax is going to come back to haunt the Democrats in a big way next year all the way to the 2010 elections.

There is no way this service tax is going to generate the revenue Comrade Granholm and Andy "Double Dealing" Dillon deliberately misled the people of the Soviet Socialist Republic of Michigan to believe.  Therefore, come next year, Comrade Granholm and her little brown noser, Andy Dillon, are going to have some explaining to do as to why the service tax not only failed to generate the revenue they said it would but also why businesses have fled the State as a result.  Moreover, it will put Comrade Granholm and that sorry excuse for a Notre Dame graduate, Andy Dillon, in the uncomfortable position of either asking the people of the Soviet Socialist Republic of Michigan to agree to even more taxes or...agree to massive cuts in structural state spending.

I think the neo-communist Democrats in Lansing have made their bed and the Senate Republicans should just let those bastards lie in it.
