Who are the NERD fund donors Mr Snyder?

    Raise the curtain.

    Boehner et al (none / 0) (#3)

I'm not certain this comment exactly dovetails with your post, but the American people are unbelievably uniformed about this country and its direction.  Even people who are truly interested in the country's direction fall for that same sham over and over again.

People think in terms of Democrat and Republican, in right versus left, in claimed conservativism versus progressivism, without paying much attention to the details.

This is how a buffoon like Boehner can declare himself a conservative (more than enough to appease those who identify as conservatives) while at the same time pursuing an agenda that is clearly centrist.  The same can be said for John McCain and Mitt Romney (the GOPs last two presidential candidates who steered themselves to the right until the nomination was locked up) Lindsay Graham (along with McCain the GOPs two most easily identified Senators) and more locally, to Rick Snyder and Randy Richardville who might not suggest that they themselves are conservative, but with that (R) behind their names being easily enough to cement themselves to the sweet spot of traditional Republican voters who will, regardless of their dissatisfaction with "RINOs" vote for the R.

We have an establishment Republican party that is more concerned with its ability to hold on to power than it is with returning this country to a foundation in liberty.  That's why Karl Rove inserts his millions into elections that support centrists over tea party candidates.  That's why big money donors across the country give their money to the nearly fossilized John McCain in his juggernaut campaign against J.D. Hayworth.  Rove needs relevance!  McCain needs his ego stroked! Graham needs historical relevance!  Christie needs liposuction! (A cheap shot, I admit, but I'm on a roll.)

George Washington would kick the ass of every one of these career politicians.  Washington turned down what would have been a royal station.  He could have been the King George of the new America.  Yet, in my opinion, he made the greatest decision ever made by any American president--he would not make any attempt at a third term.  He would honor the American inspiration of "citizen legislator" and would forgo royalty.

Not Boehner.  Not McCain.  Not Graham.  Not Conyers or that old fart Dingell either, for what it's worth.  These folks are our ruling overlords and, whatever you believe, they think their individual standings within the halls of government vastly outweighs the principle standings within the Constitution that they were elected to pursue.

I'm not so certain that we aren't banging our heads against the wrong wooden door.  A small vocal minority of conservatives (including myself) has to begin to enlighten those GOP members who continue to robotically vote (R) instead of Conservative (capitalization not a typo, thank you very much.)

These fools will NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER put a smaller government on their agenda because the smaller government they actively spurn would necessarily reduce the importance of even smaller minded career politicians with grand designs on their wonderful legacies. Back off people, there's a Britannica entry to solidify!

Now, more in the flavor of the post...Boehner truly does suck.  Yet, the republicans in his district keep reelecting him, and the house GOP keep reelecting him as their leader.  A certain biological reflection rears its head here and I must point out that there is always a first lemming off the cliff.

The good news is that we won't be the first to hit the bottom.
