      I don't really care much one way or the other but I think he's right.

      It's the duty of the notary to follow the laws that regulate notaries.  It's not the duty of someone seeking to have their document notarized to know whether the notary is in compliance or not.  If it was, we'd all have to research the credentials of every notary we use.

      The notary certainly broke the law, and Sen. Richardville may have to get his document re-notarized, but I think it's probably a stretch to say he's ineligible for office.

      The line says if he made a "false statement".  An improper notarization is not a false statement.
