    But I suspect the real deal is somewhere in between.

    It may tighten up, but the news also helps Santorum's numbers in other vital states.  

    Bottom line is Mitt has a problem.  He has too many not-Mitt voting folks who no longer see Gingrich as a reliable contender.  The Split of the conservative vote was the best way (as it worked with Snyder) for Romney to pull it off.

    "Santorum's benefiting from the open nature of Michigan's primary as well. He's only up by 12 points with actual Republican voters, but he has a 40-21 advantage with the Democrats and independents planning to vote that pushes his overall lead up to 15 points."

    This is going to be really funny if it gets closer, and turns out that the Republican establishment could have elected Romney in a caucus or convention, but an open primary gets them Santorum.
