What government leaders in Detroit need to realize is, and this is not rocket science folks, that if you want a vibrant Detroit you have got to make it easier for businesses to make a profit.  That's it.  There is no other answer.  

What good does mass transit do for a business that cannot make a profit inside the city?  What good does brand new library furniture do for businesses that cannot make a profit inside the city?  What good does a bright city park do for a business that cannot make a profit inside the city?  What good does a brand new Office of Urban and Metropolitan Initiatives do when its motivations are to entice businesses to move back absent a profit motive?

Reduce taxes.  Eliminate corruption.  Reduce regulations.  Voila!  In two or three decades you have a more vibrant city.  (Sorry folks, Detroit wasn't destroyed overnight, and it will not become resurrected in the bat of a bureaucrat's eye either.)
