      Sorry to hear about the problems with the locale.

      Since that the event is still about a year away, have they given any thought at doing the shindig downtown, but staying outside of the city?

      There are great hotels in Warren and Southfield that are only about 20-25 minutes away and excellent hotels in Novi about 30-35 minutes away.

      They're not really that far away from Detroit via the freeways and safer to walk around before and after the ceremony without needing to worry about getting rolled by either the locals or the politicians.
