1.) As it was explained to me, the private pension/retirement system argument is directly from Art 9 § 24 of the Michigan Constitution:
§ 24 Public pension plans and retirement systems, obligation.
Sec. 24. The accrued financial benefits of each pension plan and retirement system of the
state and its political subdivisions shall be a contractual obligation thereof which shall not be
diminished or impaired thereby.
2.) Please point out exactly where I was ever a proponent of maintaining the MBT. I do not recall ever defending that byzantine mess of a tax.
Speaking for myself, I'd just be happy with a plain flat tax imposed on the total gross income earned by a company, wherever that income may have been earned. No deductions. No games. No social engineering or political paybacks by whomever the current party is in power.
Calculate what you earned, multiply that by 4.35% (or the current rate for individuals), write a check to the Dept of Treasury.
