      Which I intended to use to make a point about radicalism and terrorism. Radicals of all stripes in the modern era have used terrorism in an attempt to accomplish their goals, be it al Qaeda, the IRA, eco-terrorists, or Timothy McVeigh. So the question regarding radical Islamist terrorists is whether there is something innate within the religion of Islam that encourages killing civilians of other religions and ways of life, or whether there are political factors in play that encourages radicalization. I would argue, based on the history and current political dynamics of the Middle East, that the underlying cause that has led radical Islamist terrorism to become a major threat is political.
