           Mr. Hoekstra did show up for the Mid-Michigan TEA Party Patriots forum, on Sept. 29 in DeWitt. I think he learned his lesson then, and lost interest in any more. The other candidates, especially Gary Glenn, tore into his record, and there was plenty to rip him up and down with. Hoekstra didn't have anything to say in defense of his past votes, just sat back and looked stoic and unhappy. Finally, after about 70 minutes, he said there were reasons to not make Democrat enemies, he needed to build coalitions to get bills passed. That did not go over well with the audience.      
           Near the end he claimed he had a 100% conservative rating from somebody or other, and said "If I made a mistake I'm sorry." It didn't look like much fun for Mr. Hoekstra, and I doubt I'll see him again at a similar event.
