I've been reasonably civil in the discourse that has taken place since the tragedy in Arizona. Good grief, even before that its been weeks since I called one of these opportunistic children of illegitimacy an opportunistic child of illegitimacy. (See how nicely I phrased that?)
All the recent calls to end the incivility of political debate are silly to the point of ridiculousness.
Let us not forget why so many raised voices became raised in the past couple of years. Health care reform was unpopular with the electorate when it was jammed through congress over protests of the American people. Why? Because politicians know better. What about producing more of our own domestic energy? Most Americans want to...they won't allow it because politicians know better. What about cap and trade? We don't want it. So, what do the buffoons in the administration do but try an end around of the checks and balances written into the constitution. They know better. On and on it goes.
If Congress and the President refuse to listen to the people, what are the people supposed to do...take up guns? I don't think that is a very popular solution.
And yet, despite all the shrill screechings coming from the left, incivility had no more to do with this shooting than did the burning and itching of athlete's foot. If sheriff Dipstick of Pima County had begun his tirade by blaming it all on the purveyance of woeful podiatric hygiene, would our fearless leader have led yesterday's memorial pep rally with calming prose yearning for an America with clean socks?
How did this horrifying incident become a pulpit for the president to lecture all of us to tone down our rhetoric? First of all, had all of the victims even made it into the ER before this sheriff cretin was blaming the shooting on me and you and everyone else in the tea party? How long did it take before his groundless charges were joined by a chorus of other clueless progressives using the tragedy as a way to blame conservatives?
But, once most of the charges were disproven, (in fact, once we found out this murderer was a leftist and enthralled with atheism, communism, fascism, devil worship, dream interpretation, and nihilism) we were all equally admonished, both left and right, for our uncivil tones. Hey...I didn't cause any of the problem and neither did any other conservative--why should we be treated with some undeserved moral equivalency? Even in hockey where fisticuffs break out all of the time they have an instigator penalty.
Not in politics. No, in politics we conservatives must be lied about and trashed in the most vile of terms, but when we respond all debate must be toned down for its ugliness.
While I believe that the sheriff blathered his initial yammering idiocy in as good of faith as an impulsive and guilt ridden yammering idiot possible could, those that piled on even days after the sheriff's libels had been disproven did so for reasons of opportunity--they believe (and rightly so) that if they can use these events to enact legislation that weakens the first and second amendments they will be one step closer to protecting the socialist legislation they have already put in place over the electorate's objections.
It is my job as a conservative to let them know that I'm not falling for any of their crap. Sorry if I didn't say it kindly enough.
