      Please consider the following:

      1.  At the time of Judge Kelly's letter, U.S. District Judge Paul Gadola, a Reagan appointee and a true judicial conservative, had already overturned the woman's conviction saying her lawyers "were manifestly and flagrantly ineffective."  (The lawyers failed to call witnesses or introduce evidence.)

      2.  The defendant was living with her sister (and not in prison) when Judge Kelly wrote the letter asking the Governor to commute her sentence.  Hence, no intent or need to "spring-free" anyone!
