So now we have the Ryan Plan, Boehner Plans #1, #2, and #3, as well as Cut, Cap, and Balance all passed by the U. S. House of Representatives.  Regardless of what you do or don't think about any of those five plans individually, there is no way any honest politician or reporter can claim that the House or the Republican Party has done nothing with regard to a good faith effort to substantively and constructively address the "debt ceiling."  What has happened is that the Senate generally (and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid specifically) have done not one goddamned thing other than sit on their hands as America allegedly careens toward insolvency and default.  Hell, the Reid-controlled Senate hasn't even passed a budget for at least the past two years (I think we stopped counting at 800 days)!!!
