Because a community celebrates Christmas HARDLY means it is imposing its beliefs.

1st amendment is about protecting expression of belief with no government repercussion.

    Pretty simple actually.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Putting a tree or a nativity scene up in the town square hardly limits anyone's expression, nor does it imply that all must share that belief.  Yeah ACLU=A$$hats.  Establishment means no STATE RUN RELIGION. And prohibiting the community's aggregate desire to have a Christmas scene might be wrong actually.
