    is yet another attempt to further shift the tax burden from the wealthy onto the middle and working class. The conservative talking points about "the top 1% pay X% of federal income taxes" deliberately obscures the fact that our tax system includes sales taxes, gas taxes and property taxes, none of which are based on income and all of which have a greater impact the lower you get on the economic ladder. What Fair Taxers hope to achieve is to demolish the one progressive form of taxation (at least at the federal level) so that taxes will fall even more heavily onto the middle and working class. Their nirvana is a world of oligopolists at the top of industry and society, amassing huge amounts of wealth while paying little or nothing in taxation. No thanks.
