    Mr. Mason, a quick primer . . . (none / 0) (#13)

. . . that you may find useful.  As an experienced essayist, I tend to wrap my logic around my title.  You'll notice that the title of this particular essay is "The Government's Authority to Tax."  Thus, those objections that you so readily write off as "wingnut" are an appropriate leading paragraph.  And you'll notice that I don't even try to agree with them.  In fact, I spend the bulk of the essay systematically destroying those arguments in some detail.

The reason that I even put this essay together in the first place is because I am well aware of a loosely organized pocket of resistance to the MFTP that uses those arguments as the basis of their objections.  However, as you have indirectly pointed out, every last one of those arguments blatantly ignores all common sense, constitutional precedent, and the most rudimentary understanding of tax policy and law.  And I want to thank you, sir, for so solidly reinforcing my core point.

As Nick pointed out when he front-paged me, this essay is intended to be a discussion starter.  It is also, as I mentioned "above the fold," the first essay in a series that is intended to explain the various aspects of the MFTP and its impact.  For what it may be worth, that series is currently sitting at seven planned essays, but I reserve the option to change that at any time.
