      Bouchard Interview (none / 0) (#2)
by dsheill on Wed Jun 24, 2009 at 03:14:21 PM EST
I still give Cox the nod for style points from his interview, but I tend to get the sense that Bouchard knows what he's talking about more than the other candidates. Cox is a populist and he is effective at tapping into popular sentiment with his political positions. I go back to his interview with Nick where he was asked what in his experience as AG made him qualified to be governor, and he stammered uncontrollably. Cox has been an effective AG, but the position has had little to do with job creation. Synder advertizes himself as a businessman and non-politician. However, I believe it's naive for him to think that he will magically walk into the governor's office and change the political culture there. I like Bouchard and believe he has enough experience in Lansing not to be walking into the situation blind, while at the same time, he didn't stay there so long that the place totally changed him. He also seems to have a thoughtful and measured approach to the problems facing us. I think his point about the backbone to change things is a good one. Because as Right Cuz mentioned on his blog, how many of the candidates are talking about right-to-work? So far none, and that has a lot to do with backbone. Congrats to Nick again. Perhaps when Hornbeck, Ballenger, Skubick, and the rest of the old-times in the capitol press core retire there just might be a spot up there for you because you clearly have a knack for this stuff.
