Union workers do tend to earn more than they are worth, and that is a part of why the former "Big Three" are in serious pain right now.  Not to mention why companies are reluctant to locate themselves in our heavily unionized state.  Unions tend to negotiate themselves out of work, and they have managed to drag the state down with them.

Not to say that the entire single-state recession that we're in is a union issue, but rather that unions are a contributing factor.

That said, I don't hear anyone here saying that the "overpaid lazy bum union workers" should be gotten rid of, especially not in the form of jobs simply vaporizing.  Should they take concessions and reduce their wages and benefits to something resembling a fair market-driven level?  Yes.  If they aren't willing to make that sacrifice, should they be replaced by some of the many motivated, unemployed Michiganders?  Perhaps.

But I don't think it's fair to claim that we've been wanting union jobs to leave the state altogether.  In fact, it's one of the weaker straw-man arguments I've seen in some time.
