    Someone isn't gay because of what they do with their private parts. They gay because they are gay. Since the 1860s, the law has recognized that certain behavior warrants extra punishment because it targets protected classes. In the 1860s, it was black Americans. Today, it's other groups who are similar targeted. If you're going to oppose hate crime legislation, you also have to oppose enhanced punishment for terrorists and terrorist threats.
