    ...of Detroit's problems and suggested solutions, I disagree with the view that it would lead to another riot.

    Even with the problems cited above, one thing is missing here in '09 that led to the '67 & '43 riots:  The region isn't as racially divisive as it was back then.

    Don't get me wrong, the area is polarized. There are noticeable areas in which mostly blacks and whites live.

    But what I'm not seeing, with the noticeable exception being city council (in which most people from Detroit that I know cannot name), is outright animosity towards someone just because they are black or white.

    IMHO, Detroit's City Council is very aware that they have lost the issue on who runs Cobo, and have resorted to a this last-ditch desperation tactic.

    But I highly doubt that President Obama or Governor Granholm will deploy National Guard Troops and tanks down Gratiot or Woodward anytime this summer.
