And I agree that we are in for a long, hard fight. For example, I feel like Obama has been president for 20 years. We can never rest, even if the republicans prevail in 2010 and again in 2012.

I have a good friend, a very good friend who is a black American. He has a great temperament which allows me to dig deep with him on political issues, without emotions getting in the way.

I asked him one day why are you a Democrat, why are most black Americans democrats? His answer was this: Republicans don't care about black people. I then asked him, "And the democrat party does?" His answer was, "I don't trust any politician."

It is interesting that black people when it comes down to it, want to keep the money they earn, want to keep God central in their lives, are distrusting of government and have never been helped by it. This I explained to my friend is the essence of conservatism, yet the perception that republicans don't care about black people overshadows that fact.

How do we overcome this perception - it won't be overnight and we must prepare for a long fight and much opposition. But I believe it it possible to win or at the very least make headway. I know this because in the end my black friend and I had a mutual respect which opened the possibility of more fruitful communication.

Our great enemy is the democrat leadership and they won't go into the night easily. So like you said, we have to work at the street level and we will let black Americans get to know us their conservative brothers and how much we have in common.
