  • Your New Scoop Site

    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

    One Bite At A Time

The old question of how one might eat an elephant could see a fiscal analogy if a miracle of courage and determination sets into the Republican dominated US House.

Congress has already set an example of continuing resolutions, and money spending sans a budget, balanced or otherwise. Frankly, the role of congress has become that of enabler and cash valet to the spenders elsewhere in government, and little more.  Competing special interests over the years have created some form of acceptance that ALL issues are important enough to fund fully, and no congress critter majority has been able to (as a whole) suppress the need to please.

Its now a different world.  The stakes are higher, there is a tyranny begging to be funded, and the people are screaming at the top of their lungs that ENOUGH is ENOUGH!

And something happened in the meantime that should give us hope.  Letting a little steam off the pressure cooker that is Washington DC, the president is at the time of this writing, expected to sign a bill guaranteeing pay for military services and members in the event of a 'shut down'.

"The measure would also ensure continued pay for civilian employees of the Defense Department and Pentagon contractors whom Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel determines "are providing support to members of the Armed Forces." "
    Big deal, no?

Think about it as one less thing the president can hold over the Republicans in congress. And the fact is, he really MUST sign it.  Otherwise the tables are turned hard on him.

And it is pure gold that should not be squandered.

Listen up GOP, you had best go below the fold and pay close attention.

Congressman Kerry Bentivolio (R-11) leads Farmington Hills attorney and foreclosure king David Trott 59.55% to 40.45%, according to polling released today.

The poll was a collaborative effort between Murray Communications, a Michigan-based Republican political consulting firm; Portable Insights, a Rhode Island-based opinion research company; and Combat Data Inc., a Michigan-based political data and voter outreach services company.

Bentivolio, a Republican from Milford, was elected to Congress last year after then-Rep. Thaddeus McCotter was disqualified from the primary ballot after failing to turn in the required minimum number of valid petition signatures.

Trott announced his primary challenge last week.

A Message To Our Legislators - Beware False Choices

Bentivolio Letter Hints At Congressional Trick.

Representative Kerry Bentivolio smelled a rat I believe.

He write in an email blast last evening:

"You can expect major legislation to be voted on this week.

First, the continuing spending resolution, or "CR."

I have flatly stated that I will oppose this resolution if it will fund ObamaCare. And I will take the greatest care to identify any provision that might indirectly do so. "yup

Its not far from what is really going on.
Apparently, there is a procedural move which has been used before to fool the noobs in the political arena, and provide cover for the enablers otherwise; Fund, Defund, and pretend. From Brieitbart:"The source added that House Majority Leader Eric Cantor is "shopping an idea of passing defund through the House with the CR, but with a mechanism that would allow it to be decoupled in the Senate, defeated, and then the base CR be passed without coming back to the House."
    Huh.

Whats up with THAT, Michigan Republican congress critters?

    Bentivolio: Avoid Syrian Conflict

Michigan Republican Kerry Bentivolio (CD-11) makes a compelling argument to refrain from involvement in Syria.

Bentivolio, a veteran, understands the stakes, and openly asks what our interests truly are:

"What has been happening in Syria is truly a human tragedy. The nation has been torn apart by civil war. Tens of thousands have either lost their lives or been driven from their homes. It is without a doubt that Assad is not a friend of ours.

However, it has also been made clear that those who oppose him have direct ties to al-Qaeda. Whoever wins this war will not be affectionate toward the United States.

What, then, is "our interest guided by justice" as it relates to involving ourselves in the Syrian fight? In other words, what is the objective of any American mission?

    ...

I think the Secretary of State is confusing national honor with the president's ego. A few months ago, The New York Times reported that President Barack Obama drew a "red line" in the case of a chemical attack in Syria in an "off-the-cuff" statement that "defined his policy in a way some advisers wish they could take back." This was recently buoyed by the fact that a member of the president's military counsel leaked that the White House only wants the attack to be "just muscular enough to not be mocked." Embarrassment, not justice, seems to be the motivating factor for an attack.

Any Republican OR Democrat willing to subject this nation to an additional conflict and understands this is a fool.

Thank you Congressman Bentivolio. (Read the complete statement)

    Hott To Trott

Actually, I don't know a lot about this guy David Trott.

He's announced he will be challenging Kerry Bentivolio in the CD11 Republican primary.  He apparently believes he can serve the district and the country better than the current incumbent, and I'm OK with a challenge on who can be the better conservative.  I've said it before, I LIKE primaries.

"Crazy thought for a staunch conservative, right? Perhaps. But not if one has had the philosophical disagreements still within the framework of that conservatism. Not if those disagreements extend into Republican governance. Not if any particular conservative part of the constituency still feels his or her best representation is not being made."
    I say "bring it on!"

But Dave? Make sure you really have a reason, please.

If you feel its just your turn Mr Trott?  Stay home.  If you feel that several hundred thousand dollars in Michigan political campaigns over the last several years has earned you the seat, I disagree.  If you think however, that Kerry Bentivolio's record of defending the constitution is lacking, and you can make a case for it, do it here.

Avoid it if it is for your bucket list please.

We have NINE potential statesmen, but will be lucky if we pull out TWO in the end.

Michigan Congressmen need to pay attention.  Its all over for Republicans if Obamacare is allowed to continue.  Understand this. The two senators in these videos are worthy of emulation.

You have one last chance Reps Candace Miller, Dave Camp, Bill Huizinga, Justin Amash, Kerry Bentivolio, Mike Rogers, Dan Benishek, Tim Walberg, Fred Upton.

The 2013 Update of the Freedom Index is out.

The Freedom Index: A Congressional Scorecard Based on the U.S. Constitution rates congressmen based on their adherence to constitutional principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility, national sovereignty, and a traditional foreign policy of avoiding foreign entanglements. The percentages below are cumulative scores are based on key votes from 1999 through 2013. Click on a senator's or representative's name to get a detailed breakdown of his or her voting record.

    Michigan

    Sen. Carl Levin - 13%
    Sen. Debbie Stabenow - 18%
    Dist.1: Dan Benishek - 70%
    Dist.2: Bill Huizenga - 76%
    Dist.3: Justin Amash - 93%
    Dist.4: Dave Camp - 53%
    Dist.5: Daniel Kildee - 30%
    Dist.6: Fred Upton - 48%
    Dist.7: Tim Walberg - 71%
    Dist.8: Mike Rogers - 51%
    Dist.9: Sander Levin - 16%
    Dist.10: Candice Miller - 51%
    Dist.11: Kerry Bentivolio - 80%
    Dist.12: John Dingell - 21%
    Dist.13: John Conyers - 28%
    Dist.14: Gary Peters - 15%

48? 51? 53 percent constitutionally competent?  We KNOW the Democrats have abandoned any allegiance to the constitution, but its truly disturbing how 'our side' has characters that would so willingly disregard the TRUE rule of law.
