    Perfect vs. Good (none / 0) (#5)
by Kevin Rex Heine on Thu Aug 11, 2011 at 12:35:39 PM EST
A lesson that I learned early on in my naval career was, "Don't let perfect be the enemy of good."  And, quite frankly, based on the feedback that I'm already getting from various members of the State Committee (2-to-1 in support right now), the line of reasoning that the supporters of a primary are going to use is that none of the competing plans is a perfect alternative . . . and that line of reasoning alone will be used to sell the Special Primary as the option to go with.

Truthfully, any option that isn't a convention is vulnerable to non-republican contamination; the only difference is a matter of degree.

Might there be a better way to pre-register for this event, so as to make sure that we minimize democrat crossover?  Sure; for example, having the precinct delegates do the pre-registration via some form of door-to-door canvassing might work.  (Each county's republican executive committee could figure out for themselves how to cover precincts where they have no delegate coverage.)

The point is that we make the decision to do this, and then figure out the bugs in the pre-registration process.
