    1. Only 25% of the electorate identifies themselves as Republicans, although this number does climb to around 35% when you look at people who are likely to vote. At any rate, Democrats enjoy a clear plurality in Party identification, even after the last two years.

    2. By throwing out moderates, and moving to more conservative principles, this number will almost certainly drop as moderates defect.

    The clear enthusiasm gap between Tea Party conservatives and the rest of the electorate will pay dividends this year. However, in the long term, casting out moderates will ultimately marginalize the Republican Party.
